It confuses some people.
Some people take it as an offense against "the true game of poker".
It is wayyyyy too much of a handicap, as no good player would ever use it but a looot of suckers would.

I love when people straddle. It's a losing bet. I don't do it myself, no.

I personally enjoy the action, I would deff agree with Supa not a winning bet however depending on flow of tables it can really get the cash flowing.

flowing from your stack to someone elses most likely, thats usually what a "losing bet" does

The only reason you should straddle is to induce others who play worse to do so. But if that applies, any immediate loss in expectation can often be offset (sometimes greatly) by projecting a "gambling" attitude and table culture.

Personally, I wish people could straddle online. I'd also like to see some tables added where they play NL with an ante.

yeah, its goes along the lines with fold&show.
A lot of people are asking for it on Fulltilt poker and I would love to see that feature.
No good player will ever use it, but the fish loves to show their hand when they make a big fold, which gives loads of information about how they play.

Don't get me wrong, I wish they could straddle to their little donkey hearts content.

That would be +EV, for me

Saying only donks straddle is pretty bad statement. I do agree its not a profitable bet, its to induce action. I dont straddle often, usually when im having a hot night is about it. More often then not the only people I found at the casino I play at straddling are the regulars.

No not all straddlers are donkeys, but it is a donkish thing to do. Some do it for deception others(like you for action). Regardless, it's giving away EV.

Please don't mistake live regulars for doing the correct action all the time, let alone being even minor winners. Most live regulars are in the hole a loooooot.
