It might not be smart for using a debit card because if there is fraud (although highly unlikely) it is on money you already have and if it is stolen it might be a long time before you get it back and in the meantime you won't have money (unlike credit cards).

If your debit card has Visa or Mastercard printed on it you should be able to use it in the same fashion as a credit card. Some credit cards, however, have blocked merchants used for poker sites. So your problem isnt likely debit card versus credit card, but the bank. If the online deposit option that you tried failed, try other ones with the same debit card. Some may be accepted by your bank while others might not.

I play on partypoker and use iGM, they use ACH against my checking acct (same as a debit card). Deposits are immediate and withdrawals take 2-3 days. It is also free of any transaction fees.
