I am a new member to this sight though I have visited it many times and found the info helpful. I have read doyles book and it really elevated my game, but I have sort of hit a wall and am wondering what I should read next and if it will possibly be as good as super system. Thanks

What games do you play? Hold 'em, stud, omaha? What limits? .50/1, 2/4, 10/20? No Limit? Pot Limit?

As a new player myself maybe I can give you a good perspective.

Phil Hellmuth - Don't like the book, really don't like the author.

Phil Gordon - Awesome book from the costar of Celebrity Poker Showdown, his book was very good as a primer and he points you towards to other books you might like.

Lee Jones - Wrote an amazing book for just low limit texas holdem, this is by far the best book I've read so far, you must re-read a few times and keep a highlighter and notebook handy as this one is full of good info.

Sklansky & Malmuth - Everyone says this one is a classic, and although I liked it alot more than Hellmuth's book I still found it to be somewhat unreadable for a moderate beginner, but has great info none the less.

IMHO buy the Lee Jones, Phil Gordon, and Sklansky books, and buy them on bn.com, I got them all for 30% off and free shipping...

Well, a lot depends on the what you want out of the book and out of poker. Are you (or want to) playing low limit, high limit, tournaments, or NL cash games. And do you want a book to actually learn how to play and the reasoning behind it or do you just want a book to beat your poker buddies. I have read:

Lee Jones Winning Low Limit Holdem
Doyles Super System
Holdem For Advanced Players Slansky/Malmuth
Theory of Poker Slansky
Championship PL and NL Cloutier/McEnvoy

and about to buy

Small Stakes Holdem Miller/Slansky/Malmuth

If you want to actually learn about the game and the reason behind the plays i strongly suggest Theory of Poker. It applies to all forms of poker and gives a good understanding of what plays to make and why. I thought that Lee Jones book was good for beginning but it just scratches the surface on a lot of topics.

i've actually read the book and its an excellent book. cloutier makes good pts on certain situations. talks about all the hands and how they should be played and at the end of the material, he has practice hands. also another book thats good that no one seems to talk about it brad daughtery's book (dunno about the spelling) who won the wsop in 1991. he actually talks about the different kinds of players there are such maniacs, tight agressive, passive, etc. and then he'll give practice hands on how to play each type of player, why each player will bet as they do, etc. i think imo, is a better book than cloutier's book. but thats just my opinion.

I thought it was a pretty solid book and I found helpful for tournament play.
