Poker Forums, whats the use?!
Hi guys, just wondering whether people can actually find the information they require from poker forums? Is there one poker forum which is known as the best for getting poker related questions answered?
Ive been in some forums and asked questions and hardly ever got a decent answer.
Your thoughts???

The benefit to me of forums is to get a diversified opinion of how others think. Second and third level thinking is sometime required to understand the answers.

Re: Poker Forums, whats the use?!
Hi again, ive posted the same question in a couple of other forums, some are more useful than others but with similar replies: did you ask the question correctly or in the right way?, were your questions vague?, etc etc etc.
It seems you have to filter through a lot of bs replies but sometimes people on forums can be helpful. Might have came across a good forum which rates peoples answers so your more gauranteed to get the answer your looking for.

In poker, weasel, a lot of beginners seem to think there are concrete, black-and-white answers for most scenarios, when the right decision is really influenced by many, many factors. The answer is often prefaced by "it depends". So very generic, vague questions are impossible to answer. Which is why, on the anonymous internet, you'll get a lot of smart ass replies.
If you're able to provide a very specific situation with all the information at your disposal, including but not limited to: cards, position, blinds, stack sizes, stage of tournament (if not a cash game), ALL action in the hand, and most importantly, reads you have on your opponent about their playing style, then you can usually get responses about what factors to consider to make the best possible decision.
And always remember, it's the decision that is what's important. NOT the cards that come after it. You can't control those. The best decision is whatever makes you the most money in the long run.

This is one of the best posts I've ever read. I think even the regulars on this forum sometimes forget a few of these elements.
Nice one

Re: Poker Forums, whats the use?!
Thanks gunslinger, what you says is so true and makes a lot of sense, i suppose only certain questions can have simple black and white answers, a question like what is known by the term 'bluffer' or what is the strongest hand in texas holdem poker.
Questions that seem trivial and easy to answer for some might still spark off smart ass replies or over-complicated replies. Like you say if the details are not in the questions a whole host of different replies with different opinions for 'know it alls' might occur.
BUT! I think ive stumbled across something that prevents the bs replies regardless of the question asked, no matter how trivial or detailed. It looks like a site like Yahoo Answers but for poker! If it is then basically answers are rated via votes with the best answer being top, all the bs goes to the bottom and is forgot about! So replies from Finsel for eg are forgotten about.
G2g but will post an address or something if anyone would like to have a look.

But this isn't only a 'poker forum' issue. I also write on a business forum and a sports forum, and you get exactly the same issues there.weasel wrote:Questions that seem trivial and easy to answer for some might still spark off smart ass replies or over-complicated replies. But all this will do is push the most popular reply to the top. That doesn't mean its the correct answer. Even the best players in the world play hands differently.weasel wrote:BUT! As we've already explained to you, poker is about incomplete information. Therefore peoples replies come from opinions, not facts.
Instead of investing your time on a system to find the 'perfect answer' just use it to research previous posts (on this site and others). Trust me, you will develop your game further.

I shouldn't bother posting a link to whatever site it is you are trying to advertise or you'll be saying bye bye to this forum for good.

I'm not sure we should be banning people that can design a site which "looks like a site like Yahoo Answers but for poker!". I mean, this guy is providing a public service!!!
If anything, we should be putting him forward for a knighthood for services to poker!

jimmer, where exactly in weasel's post did you read that he was going to set this up? I didn't really understand your reply when I read it earlier and I think you need to re-read his post:
