Poker Pros Having Crappy Poker Chips
You always see lots of clips on tv with the poker pros chillin at home playing poker and having either fun with the family or friends. But then when you see the chips their using it's always the slug bombs, and by slug bombs I mean the 11.5 hunk of metal they put in the middle of the chip and then press it into a thin plastic mold.
Slug Bomb
Fun Fact! - China sells these chips by the millions to usa at 3 cents a chip or less - Fun Fact!
I'm just wondering why since you are a pro and your game is involving chips, I would think pros would have a pimp ass set of custom chips they bust out whenever they have a home game or some type of personal game. Bowling players have custom made balls, Archers have custom bows; even Chubbs thought Happy Gilmore had to have his own custom golf club!
I mean for instance lets say Daniel wanted to have a private heads up match at his house because I fell on the concrete and skinned my knee. Feeling sorry for me (I was crying) he asked if I wanted to get bandaged up and mentioned he had med supplies at home. I also managed to tell him I play poker and asked if he wanted to play a game. Daniel actually said MmmhhBuhh, so I took that as a yes.
So we get to his house, and it's a marvelous house I might add ( it's even handicapped accessable!) and we go in and to the 43rd room on the right after you take the elevator to the 3rd floor, we sit down in his personal own poker room where all the business takes place.
He claps twice as if you would when you wanted to turn on a light using the clapper and a butler came out with the coolest poker chip case I've ever seen. It was made out of jade and silver and the case latches were made out of ivory.
The words "Lets get it on!" like that ones guy says in the Ultimate Fighting Championships, was yelled out by Daniel, as he opens up the case facing himself and busts out the chips. As soon as I caught eye of his chips my eyes almost popped outta my skull!
Daniel busts out these fuggly plain looking chips that you might get for free if you signed up for a poker site. I could tell they were the china made chips by the clanging noise that was made when he was counting out the chips. I earlier eat at pizza hut and kept the fridge magnet and took it outta my pocket to do the metal slug test and it tested positive as well.
We started playing about 5 hands, but then I couldn't take the twangy noise the chips were making when we were playing. There was no way getting past that noise, since we shuffle and play with out chips, so I had to stop. Even though Daniel got me some ear plugs, the noise still pierced though them. We both decieded that we should play again some other day.
I see pros having specialized card protectors, and personalized accessories, so I'm honestly just trying to get some answers from the Big D and other pros and want to know if he knows of any pros that have a custom set of Poker Chips.
I'm just a little dumfounded out it is all.

I'm betting that they rarely, if ever, play in their own home. There's no money to be won playing for fun with family/friends. Why would they keep non-casino poker chips at home? The off chance that they can't make it to the casino, so they'll just call up some buddies for some high stakes poker?
Other than practicing chip tricks, I don't see why a poker pro would keep a set at home.

First, actually many do have home games and are on the record as having regular ones and holding ad hoc as well. I'm guessing they use "slug bombs" because while they are cheaper than casinos ones they are just as durable for a home game. Casinos need high qualty ones because of the use they get and the amount of hands that touch them.
Second, I think a poker player who worries about the kind of chips he/she uses in their home game has other issues. Like, OMG, should I use the suited 11.5 or the Paulson Flush tonight!? They probably invest in great cards and food. Chips are really not that important.

For shame! The sound, the feel, the weight ... mmmmm ...
Hell - if you're just using them as a unit of measure, might as well go out and buy the red, white and blue hoyle "chips".

Most casino's primary requirement for chips is security. A lot of plastic chips are just as durable, if not more, than any casino chip.

It's almost actually cheaper or the same cost to buy 500 11.5g suited chips than it is to buy 500 hoyle chips. 100 Hoyle chips cost $5-10. So $50 minimum for 500 Hoyle and you can buy 500 11.5g suited chips with a case for $50-$60 online. So you choose.
Don't get me wrong I like playing with the 11.5g suited chips. In fact I have 1500 of them. I've thought about upgrading to better chips. But I asked myself... what's the point? What I have works.

I bought my plastic Hoyle chips for $2 per 100. I got 500 and keep 'em in a plastic ice cream bucket. This was way before the poker craze, and before I really got into poker. I prefer 11.5 slug chips over plastic Hoyle chips only because they stack better.
Of course, I prefer my ASM clays even more, because they stack even better!
