Poker Table Foam...
i want to get mine locally (i'm impatiant). there's a place that has huge sheets of the high density foam... but not in 3/8" which is what i've seen suggested in most of the plans floating around (and what's sold on casinosupply.com).
my two options for this local place is 1/4" or 1/2" thickness.
which one do y'all think i should go with?
i'm leaning towards the 1/4" but am not certain if that's the right choice.

1/4 - 1/2 both are such small measurments that it really doesnt matter. My table has half on it and it works perfectly fine, worst case scenario you stretch the fabric tight enough to and you can get a 3/8s look out of it.
Carpenters rule of thumb......Its always better to have too much then not enough. That goes hand and hand with measure once, cut twice. hmmm, maybe its measure twice, cut once at any rate either will work fine.

yay!!
i went with the 1/4 inch foam... when i got to the store the 1/2" just looked way too thick.
anyway... i got my table all covered now! i'm stoked.
i'll be updating the side-pot table construction plans within the week... there'll be a lot of pics included with that... but here's a quick pic of the finished product (it's big so i've linked it instead of hotlinked the image... the image should open in a new window for you... if you zoom out to 50% you should be able to see the whole thing. lol)...

I'm using the 1/2 inch foam and love it. I'm just using a converted dinner table that seats 6 (but we can fit up to 11). Anyway, because a lot of people rest their arms on the table it gives it a nice cushy feel so that your elbows wont get sore.
The elbow thing isnt really a main concern, but the 1/2" was all that was available when i was looking. My table has some nice crushed velvet type material and the green 1/2" foam you can pick up from fabric stores. Looks and feels great!

the 1/4" worked out great for me. when the fabric was pulled tight and stapled... it really does now feel like a casino table top. i think 3/8" might have been okay... but for what i was looking for, 1/2" would have definitly been too much.
total cost for me... frabric AND foam = 30 bucks. can't beat that! the "desigerns suede" on top of that 1/4" foam is awesome!
as for life expectancy... i do not yet know. it's not really a fabric that can pill or shed, so my guess is that it should last a while... especially with the scotch guard.
did y'all look at the pic there? what do you think?!

i use the 8g diamond chips and no, there are no stacking issues when people rest their elbows...
the only way it would cause a problem would be if they rested them right next to the stacks... which doesnt really happen. I thought of building/buying some edge rails, but with how cushy the feel of the table is i really dont have to.

Nice table, JKeats! I'm still toying with the idea of just buying one. So much easier.
Bleh - we'll see.

I would so much rather build one, or have a custom one built. Most of the premade ones look dull to me.
