PokerStars Freeroll: Made the final table tonight!

Postby SillyPuppy » Thu Mar 25, 2004 2:35 am GMT

I'm just SO wired! This evening's 1000-player NL freeroll on PokerStars had me off to a so-so start, but some lucky hands and clueless callers had me with the chip lead for at least half of the four hours. At the final table, I was anxious to do something else (yes, even I need a break once in a while!), and most of us were going all-in just to end the thing. I caught more luck, and went heads-up $1.3M to $200k. But the other guy wanted the win, and since I was declaring my cards before the all-ins, he folded when he didn't think he couldn beat me.

So, I play Limit Stud on Sunday, with all the other final table guys. I have to say, it's really nice to play with others who are hoping you do as well as they do. If the tables were dead quiet, I'd have been more stressed. Among my "fans" on the rail was a guy I'd played against before (last time he whipped me!), and he rooted me on to the finish.

Overall, a great night for me! Can't believe I made it!

I played the second round on Saturday, and ended up placing #141 of 511 participants. The game was Limit 7-card Stud, which is NOT a game I'm any good at. I ended up losing to the chip leader (who didn't make the money, either, as it turns out), and sat next to the guy I went heads-up with on Wednesday. We both were not quite happy...

I realize that PokerStars has many games, and many freeroll tournaments. However, the majority of the freeroll tourneys are NL Hold'Em, and so, most people qualify for the weekly second round by winning at NL Hold'Em. Why did we have to play Limit Stud?! No one plays 7-Stud or Omaha to qualify for the WSOP or WPT packages they have... You should play the game you showed skill in, right?

Anyways, I was someone happy, considering I don't like 7-card Stud, but still...

Yeah, that seems really weird that they change the game. That would really tick me off if I played in a NL Holdem freeroll and wound up in a stud game if I won. I don't think you'd ever see that with Hold em - maybe with those other games they think people would prefer variation.
