Post and Fold or Check/Fold Any-Problem??

I don't have a problem with people who sit out. I'd rather play. I may play tight when I have to, but I'd rather play. Also, if you're not even going to play your Big Blinds, frankly you are just stupid. I've had some of my biggest winners in the BB because I got to see the flop for free. Example: The other night I had 8/6 off in the BB. No pre-flop raise, so I check and get to see the flop for free. The flop brought an 8 and a 6, the turn was another 8. I had a monster hand and won a monster pot.
I know it can be frustrating when people sit out, but I feel they are at a disadvantage in the long run. They might hang around a long time and get deep into the tourney, but good patience play will take you farther. Just my opinion.

Groton,
If you are in a good spot (meaing high tc) that means that you played early and won some hands. in this situation you should only play the best possible hands to insure that you don't "jackal" yourself into a lower chip stack. I think that if you are the High Chip stack that you SHOULD post and fold until the end because you have enough money to do it.
The only reason anyone should be 'in' on early hands is because they're backs are up agains a wall (ie: blinds) and will drop out if they don't act. If your back isn't up against a wall, by all means you should p/f. That is a good move.

Thanks for all of the responses. Most of you are actual players and I understand your reasons for P/F. Groton, you are using the P/F the way it is meant to be used as are most of the others responding. The only people I had problems with were the people who were doing it because they were short stacked and wanted to see if they could slide into the money. This is never really a problem on multi-table stuff, just the sit and goes.
Any rate, great responses and good info. Thanks.

I respectfully disagree w/ you schrek. If you have a high chip count, dont risk a lot of your stack, but use your size to push others around. If I have 3000TC and most others only have 400-1500, I will make a note in my head about how low I am willing to fall (how many chips to risk) and I will start picking spots to push people around.
For example-10 player sit and go w/ 800TC starting. 7 players remain, blinds are 50/100 I have 3000, 2nd is 1800-rest are lower. In this situation I will be willing to risk at least 500-700TC (leaving me w/ a healthy 2300 if I lose). Say the big and small have 500 and 900TC. If I am 1 or 2 spots off the button w/ no callers in front I will raise 500 w/ an A, K and 9 or better or QJ J10 and pairs of 8 or better. If I can steal those blinds, now I can risk 650TC next time.
The key late in the game is to use your stack to put pressure on other. Understand that a 500 raise is all in to one and 1/2 stack to the other and watch them fold. If they call and you lose, big deal.
People talk about getting into the money...who cares. You need to WIN! You need to build your stack to be 1/2 the chips on the table by the last 3 and hopefully 2/3 by the time you are heads up. There is a BIG difference between cashing in on win and just getting in the money. Dont be foolish, but dont sit on the biggest stack of chips. USE THEM!

Dave, I understand exactly what you're saying, and agree that the strategy (pushing people around) works WONDERS! I will take that approach when I'm the high stack with six or less people left. I was more so referring to when you are a Mid-Sized stack. With a mid-sized stack (2000 tc would be considered a mid-sized stack in your situation) I find that p/f gives you the best chance to
A) get in the money and
B) have enough chips to make a run at the first spot when you get in the money.
I find it maximizes your chances to win in the end, if you p/f (at that point in the game). (Obviously if you catch one of the top 6 hands in the game, you will play aggressively.)
If i was the leader in chips (3000 or more as you said) i would be willing to push people around also, because it will (if all fails) leave me with my Mid-sized stack, in which case i play as noted above. And the chance I'm taking that I push someone into giving me more chips for free is worthy of the risk (as you, in other words, so noted).
Great points, and you made a great post. I appreciate it.

I still would never post fold. If I get AA or KK I am going all in no matter where I am chip wise late in a tourney. If I just grab the blinds-great. If someone wants a chance to double up(or double me up), great-bring it on.
Any AK AQ KQ ...I want to see a flop.
The ONLY time I post fold is when I need to step away and let the dog in or settle down a crying kid.
I would never use it as a strategy. Great hands only come across a few times each tourney-no way I am throwing one away (although I will fold AK AQ and the like under certain circumstances).

I never play before the blinds get to 100/200 starting with 1500TC and blinds going up every 10 mins (100/200 being round 5) unless I have AA, KK, QQ or AK and I wont see the turn if the flop misses me (like I have KK and there is an A and no K on the flop)
I just watch people kill each other and play the blinds.
After that I start playing but I'm usually low on chips at that time if I played no hand before round 5...so I just wait again for a hand like AXs (or AXo if I'm really struggling in chips), or high connectors or any pair and raise it (probably all in). Probably a bad tactic but gets me in the money most of the time.
Although I like what Dave B said : if u managed to catch a few hands and double up (3000TC), it sounds a good idea to try to steal the blinds on the button whatever your hand is...I shall try that :)

After a cold spell...I just hit a great streak last week. 10+1 1st 2nd 1st 1st 3rd lost, then moved to 30+3 1st 2nd 1st 3rd 1st 1st 3rd lost.
I also play pretty tight early, but I will play many more hands that the 4 top. If I can get to even 1300, then you can really put pressure on other players. Any preflop raise w/ 4 callers and the pot is 150-200. If the other callers have 600-800TC, a 200TC raise is huge to them, no big loss to you. Then nice part about betting big like that before or after the flop is the information that you get. Anyone w/ the nutz will often raise or push all in, anyone w/ 2nd pair or marginal draws will fold quickly. It might seem like a lot to bet pot for a 200TC pot early on, but if you can take down a couple of these you are really set up for the higher blinds.
Like I said, I dont play to get into the money. I play to win. The 2nds and 3rd take care of themselves.
Now if I cant get a lead, then will will sit and wait for great cards or higher blinds. When the blinds hit 50/100, then I never call short stacked (anything under starting TC), I will look to go all in.

Definitely use post and fold and don't do what I did.
Late in a tourney, shortish stack, but a double through would get me back in hunt.
Had to answer a call of nature & rather than post and fold instructed my daughter to watch the cards and fold if they were dealt before I got back.
Hurried back & she told me I only had only missed one one hand.
"What did I get?"
"You got an A with another A, dad"
"What did you do?"
"I folded like you told me to"
If only I'd used Post and Fold - LOL
