where can I find high density foam
What kind of store am I looking for exactly, I live in a small town and I've looked around to no avail. I might head into the city to look for some, just wondering where I should be looking?

For padded rails on a table? If yes, you may want to check out some piping insulation as a solution.

What about 'Memory Foam'?
My wife went out and bought this stuff called memory foam as a mattress pad for the bed. (Works GREAT for that, by the way.) I think that this stuff would work really well for rail padding. It is dense, soft, and recovers its shape pretty well. It is also pretty easy to work with. We had a king sized pad that we needed to trip to queen size and an electric kitchen knife worked very nicely. You can buy this stuff in pre-cut mattress-sized pads of various thicknesses at several retail outlets but out city also has places that sell it in custom sizes. I'd be really surprised if you couldn't find scraps really cheaply from one of these places.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Most fabric stores carry heavy foam material. We had a friend use a water noodle (you know those floating toys for kids that you see in pools all the time) and covered it in leather and it worked really well.

foam padding
If your talking about closed cell foam for under the felt, I got mine from a car upholstery shop. Real nice stuff. Resists moisture.
