My poor brother. His pocket A's got beat by three 2's.
I just have to share this story for you young players out there.
I recently held our second NL tourny this past weekend. My youngest brother did not play in the first NL tourny and our weekly game is Limit. So he has no real experience with NL play.
Somehow though he made it to the final table as one of the top three chip leaders. Then... Came his down fall. He got pocket Ace's and bet $5 out of the $160 he had. I folded, another guy folded but my other friend the chip leader called him for $5.
Flop comes: J,2,4
My brother thinking he has high pair checks to bait the other guy in. Little did he know that his $5 bet allowed the other guy to catch a three of a kind with his pocket ducks. He goes all in. My brother goes all in. The rest is history.
I tried to explain to him that with pocket Ace's and at that point to bet aggresively. Because otherwise you give someone a chance catch their cards. My other friend told me he definently would have folded ducks had he gone all in pre-flop.
Oh well... he learned the hardway

I think this story tops your brother's woes.
I was playing in a $50 NL game with some friends two weeks ago. Started with ten players and I hung on with bad hands until I was the short stacked with only five players left.
Called the blind and raised it only 100 just to keep it interesting. Person to my left raises 200. Fold, Fold, Raise an additional 500.
So I am very excited because I have two people betting in to me with pocket AA, is there any better situation?
I call the 700 and go all in for an additional 750. Guy to my left immediately calls. The only other person in the hand thinks for a long time and finally folds.
Show down: AA vs 22 . . .I figure I am a lock to almost triple up.
Flop . . .2,4,2 . . .guy calls me with the worst pair and flops four of a kind. Then an A comes on the turn to give me the boat. Only an A will save me and I don't get it.
The worst part is that if he had folded the other guy would've called and he had pocket 4s, which meant he would've flopped the boat and I would've beaten him with the boat I made on the turn.
I have never been so pissed about a bad beat. In Mr. Pocket 2s defense, he said he put me on AK with a short stack so calling with a pocket pair was not necessarily a bad call.

the odds that either of them catch trips are exactly the same, but still low enough to not even consider calling with 22
