Postby out_at_sea » Fri Apr 09, 2004 2:24 pm GMT

Please enlighten me and explain why 4:1 odds =20 %?
Shouldnt be 25%>?

What is 5:1?

What's the easiest formula to convert odds in percentages?

4 chances to one chance-total of 5 chances, hence 80%. 5:1 is 1/6. Should be obvious now.

Stil confused....

How is 1:4 percentagewise?

How about 5:2? Or 7:2? Or 9:5?

Which ot those give you the best odds?

Is there a fast way to convert the above in percentage?

How do you read 4:1 vs. 1:4?

its real simple. 20% = 20/100. break that down into lowest fraction form you get 1/5. okay so lets say you have 20% chance of winning a hand. you are 4 to 1 underdog. how i get those numbers are the following, 4 is the possible times your opponent will win the hand and 1 is number of times you will win the hand which comes out to a total of 5 total chances all together. divide the total chances there are by the number of times you will the hand we have the following: 1/ 5 = 20%.

if you dont get this at all, go read the calculating odds section right here on this forum.

I did read that post and I got the idea.....however I dont get the first coloumn in this chart though:

1-9 $2.20 2-1 $6.00
1-5 $2.40 5-2 $7.00
2-5 $2.80 3-1 $8.00
1-2 $3.00 7-2 $9.00
3-5 $3.20 4-1 $10.00
4-5 $3.60 9-2 $11.00

How would you read 1-9 or 2-5?? Please explain as you did with 4:1.

generally the bigger number is read first like with the 1-9 you are talking about it usually said as 9 to 1. and same thing goes with the 2-5 it is usually said as 5 to 2. okay with the 9 to 1 that means lets say you are a 9 to 1 favorite to win the hand, well that means about 90% of the time you will win the hand. 9/10 is what the actual fraction is. but if its said you are a 9 to 1 underdog then u have a 10% chance of winning the hand? do you understand that part?
