TruePoker compared to others...

Postby cayouche » Sun Apr 11, 2004 12:44 pm GMT

I always played TruePoker. I believe it's one of the most graphically appealing online poker sites out there (IMO). However, nobody seems to talk about that one. How come?? How is it compared to others??

they're kinda pricey compaired to the other sites i think... they also just dumped about half of their player base. can't blame them... the play money tables were sucking the life from their BW... but still... i don't think i've heard of more than one or two ppl who actually played their real $$ tables.

i havent checked out their tourney fees, but considering the last time i checked their cheapest ring game was a 1/2, my guess is that trny's are 5bucks each min... for multi table.

could be wrong though.

You're right I guess. I won't start another "Which site is best..." so I looked up this thread What Site do u think is best? and I see that many here likes UB and Party Poker. Maybe it's because they're more popular, I don't know... I had PokerStars installed for a while but never really played there since I was used to TruePoker.

Is there one of those you would or would not recommend for a online real $ newbie like me??

My TP experience.

Postby thecadman » Mon Apr 12, 2004 1:54 am GMT

I have yet to play with real money, but I suspect their playdough software is the same setup as real. If so I would never make so much as a dime bet at TP.

Way too much enticed betting for my taste. Seems every hand, all 10 people will either have a flush draw, straight draw or some other pre-flop raise worthy pocket and somehow hit the flop good enough to continue betting, raising and reraising against AAA. Flop could come AhTc8h and you getting all googly eyed, bet big then get raised and re-raised. Kc turn comes to keep club chasers in along with the heart chasers along with the now straight chasers. The time spent on another series of bets trying to let these people know you have a hand would better be served beating yourself over the head with a hammer. Jh hits river and both straight chasers holding Q2o and 79o are seeing dollar signs while heart chaser betting huge all the way with 4h5h is already reaching for the pot. Of course the guy holding KK is first to act and he's betting.. the small straight is next and he's definately betting. The guy with 888 finally decides to fold and the moron chasing clubs finally folds. The large straight bets huge then the flush draw comes over him with an all in. Your sitting here with AAA wondering what in the hell just happened.

This type of stuff just happens way too often to be normal odds.

So NO... I don't see myself playing real money at Truepoker anytime soon.

cay... you could try out royal vegas. use one of the referal links you see on these pages.

you get 10 bucks just for signing up and for your first week they have these free rolls for newly registered players. you only need to place 18 to earn a buck.

it's a good place to get your feet wet in the real money games. software isn't spectacular by any means... but you can't beat the free $$ they give you!

I have been playing at Truepoker real money tables since around November 2003. I am a pretty consistent winner (Up about $3,600.00).

I haven't played at other sites so I can't really compare. I am usually at the $50 or $100 Max Buy-in NLHE tables. Play about 15 hours per week.
For the first 4 months I played only 1-2, 2-4, 3-6 and 5-10 limit games, but find the NL tables to be far more suited to my style of play.

I have finished 1st in 3 multi-table tournies ($200-300 payout for each) and placed 4th in 1 other tourny. (I've probably played about 10 total, with 5 of those being Freerolls requiring Truepoker Points to enter.

The graphics at Truepoker are top notch. Customer service is great. Cash outs are always a cinch. Table slection is limited so I often have to wait around a while to find a table with some fish. Note taking and chat are great features as well.

How much did you cash-in for the first time?? Since the smallest stakes are $1-2, if you put the minimum $20 (I think), you're pretty limited.

Anyway... I tried Royal Vegas and didn't like it. Customer service was great too, but I really had a hard getting some money in, and I didn't like that graphics since I'm used to the "1st person" view, like TruePoker and UB. I'll try both probably by next week...

I posted this last week sometime, but here's what it took to get me started at Truepoker:

"I started playing Holdem online in September 2003. At that time my only experience with Holdem was watching the WPT and WSOP. Never really played anything other than draw poker prior to this.

I started w/ play money for about 4 weeks and finally decided to hit the $1-2 real-money limit tables with a $50.00 initial deposit. Well, I lost it in about 2 hours! Then I deposited another $50.00 and lost it the following day!

Went out and bought a book on Holdem and started reading. I also started reading online forums and tips on game play and strategy. After a few days off I decided I would deposit another $100.00 and play as tight as possible. Well, after a couple weeks I was up to about $600.00 playing $1-2 limit tables. I cashed out my initial $200.00 so my entire bankroll was made up of winnings. I have not redeposited money since then.

To make a long story short...It's been about 5 months now that I've been playing for real money and I'm up approximately $3,500.00. I have read numerous books on Holdem and am ALWAYS studying the game. I have played everything from $1-2 to $10-20 limit (usually 2-4 or 3-6) but now I play $50 NLHE and $100 NLHE almost exclusively.

I usually put in about 15 hours per week at the tables."
