Well, I built a table -

Postby The Modfather » Fri Apr 16, 2004 3:02 am GMT

Yeah, wanted to order one, but since I don't crap $$$, I decided to save a few bux and build my own.

The rails were 100% fabricated by a buddy of mine and me. The table is a 60" round. I put 1/4" sheet of neoprene (wet suit material) on it - got a GREAT price on it, so figured I might as well try to incorporate it. Worked out pretty well. The felt is 21oz. pool table felt. The pedestal that holds the table is made of 1"x2" square block iron that was welded together and painted black. I have 4 of those little metal feet w/ the nylon rings on the bottom of them. No cup holders yet - there will

It took a few days to build, but it was REALLY fun. Gonna break it in on Saturday - hope I can win a hand or 2 :)

Your table is sweet, man! I'm surprised you didn't rig it with hidden cameras or what not. lol... Have fun breaking it in... btw are you playing poker in that room? It looks like a shed. Throw up a wall and some naked pictures on the wall, and your chit will be the bomb!

Hi guys, thanks for all of the positive responses!!!

Well, to answer some of your questions:

1. Not in a shed - it's in my garage, which is currently being transitioned into a game room - it's a slow process, so I started using it as a game room before it's done :)

2. Cost: Table was used - it was an old Macy's display table I found on craigslist.org - $20. The felt was $15 shipped. The neoprene was $15. The particle board for the rails was $15. The material for the arm rests was approximately $20. The iron was free, since my buddy has a biz that works w/ the stuff - and it was scrap. Misc supplies (screws, nuts, bolts, paint, etc...) I figure about $25. Approximate total: $110 (not including the beer I drank while making it :) )

3. It's plenty big enough for 8 ppl. In fact, we used to play on it before the rails were added - the addition of the rails made it big enough for damn near 9 people - cept I have some pretty "large" friends :)

Can't wait to build another one - had a BLAST with this one!

Where did you get felt for that price?

It was a remnant (61" x 61") that I found on eBay. Keep your eyes open, and when a good deal comes along, jump on it! I'm waiting for more cloth so I can build another couple of tables for my buddies :)
