UNBELIEVABLE situation at the casino yesterday

Postby Avatar » Thu May 06, 2004 5:52 pm GMT

This one blew my mind. Check this out.

5/10 Limit at a casino yesterday.

Alright I'm sitting in late position with Qc-Qh. Someone in mid position raises to 10, I re-raise when it comes to me, the small blind is the only other caller, and then the original bettor caps it off at 20 when it comes back to him. Both myself and the small call.

Flop comes: 8s-2s-3d

Small blind checks, original bettor fires out 5, I raise to 10, and both of them call. (Yes I do know my Qs were probably up against Kings or Aces pre-flop, but him not re-raising me gave me hope that perhaps he was sitting with big slick and now was on the defense).

Turn makes it: 8s-2s-3s-3d

Small checks again, now the original raiser checks to me and I fire out again, and both only call.

River makes it: 8s-2s-3s-3d-5s

AND SUDDENLY THE SMALL BLIND BETS OUT. The orginal bettor says "**** I don't have a spade" and folds his King-King face up. I look down at my Queens and didn't have a spade either! I look at the board and there is also a possible straight, fullhouse, along with that easy flush! I thought about it for a minute and finally decided to fold. The small blind shows his hand face up and rakes in the huge pot.

HE WAS HOLDING 8h and 5c making him only TWO PAIR!! My Queens would have beat his two pair if I called.

In this situation was I wrong in folding? I keep re-thinking it over and over and I think in every situation I've seen no one has ever bluffed in that situation. How could he bet out like that especially with two other players who could easily have a spade as well?

What do you guys think of this bizarre situation. Was I just out bluffed by a good play or was he dumb/lucky?

13 big bets. The pot was offering me 13 to 1 to call. That was going through my mind too....but it just seemed tooo realistic that he made a pat hand so I was trying to save that 1 big bet.

At least u know wot he was holding, it'd be worse if he had mucked his hand raked in the pot with a big grin. I think I'd have called given that I had thrown so much in the pot as it was but hey, many people would agree with ur move :)

I will throw out a bet sometimes on the four flush. Even if I dont have the spade. I got John Juanda to fold at full tilt poker by betting on the four flush. He didnt have a spade either so he folded when he would have won.

yep. But i wouldnt count it as really doing it. He obviously is not bringing his "A" game to a playmoney table. He is probably not even paying attention and doing something else and periodically clicking call, fold or raise at random. Plus its not really that great of a bluff. The odds are good that I have a spade in my hand and he didnt. I bet first and got lucky that he didnt have a spade.

True but it's still cool. That reminds me of an old post here where someone was playing a game with Moneymaker at whatever site he got his seat with. I don't recall if he bluffed him or if he had the better hand but he got him to fold and said "I guess I shook that moneymaker". Nice choice of words.

I did the same thing with Perry Friedman. I bluffed him out of a big playmoney pot with a 4 flush on the board.
