And I am a combat photographer/videographer so I don't go into combat armed to the teeth. I gut it out with my M9 (9mm beretta) and my camera(s). Does that make me a bad ass? Nope I am one of the nicest guys you'll meet but that don't mean you can f**k with me or my family.
You might not consider yourself a badass weirdo...but I have to say your one hell of a human...my hats off to you and all our people over in Iraq and Afganistane (Spelling?).
My hats off to all our forum members too. You guys are the greatest. We might not always see eye to eye and some may hate others...or even me...but I like you all. Your a great group of people. Even you lurkers who should post more often....

Biggest bad-ass I ever knew was watching the Gestapo going to work on his older brother with an old stove and some imagination, and he had the man who was doing the main bit of the torture in his iron sights. But he didn't shoot because he knew that it was not his brother they were looking for, and if he shot he would get caught and hundreds of men he knew the names of would die and so would many they knew.
Being a bad-ass isn't define by how much pain you can give, all you need for that is anger and an edge...nah...being a bad-ass is defined by how much pain you can take.

If that's the case, then the biggest badass I know is my older sister. She broke her ankle during the first 2 minutes of a basketball game, and played the rest of the game and was even high-scorer for the team. She also broke her leg and calmly called my mom in the room and told her that her leg was broken. She's also experienced natural childbirth and is going to go through that again in a few months. The females in our family are tough (my little sis has broken just about every bone and I had a head-on battle with a windshield and won), but I think she's got the highest threshold of pain of anyone I've ever met.

Being a bad-ass is when someone raises his hand to you, stops, and unballs his fist.
You have "grit" confused with "bad ass" . . . it's like confusing endurance with strength.
To simple award the criteria to those who can take, you have to ascribe more value to pacifism then I accept. There's all kinds of ways to be cold, and taking more then the other guy is one way to do it. . . but after all the rope-a-dope, you still have to hit him once, or you took all that pain for nothing.
