Couple questions...

Postby ToyMachine22122 » Tue Jul 25, 2006 11:13 pm GMT

Alright, I've been playing home poker for about a year now...haven't really played but once or twice in a casino because they're illegal in Texas, and haven't played online because I'm not comfortable with not being able to actually see the players.

One question I have is, how do limits work? What's the notation on them? What is Pot Limit?

Another question, do you know where I can find just like a list of the best to worst hands? Some of my friends insist that Big Slick suited is statistically better than pocket Jacks...I'm almost certain that it's not and I've been looking to prove them wrong for a long time.

Pot Limit is the highest you can bet, is however much is in the pot.

I think AKs vs JJ is a coinflip.

Google "Robert's Rules of Poker" and you can get all the generally accepted rules, including what you need to know about the different limit games. Also, play the free money games on the online poker rooms to get the hang of playing different types of poker.

Heads up, Jd, Jh beats Kc, As about 57% of the time.

Pokertips.org has my favorite hand simulator. They give you exact odds and even include how many possible hands there are.

When it comes to the question of what is statistically the better hand, the answer depends on how many hands are involved. Heads up, any pocket pair is statistacally better than any non- paired hand (you're better off with poket 2s than A, K). However, the list of best hands changes with how many people are involved in the hand. At a table of eight, A, K is statistically better than pocket 2s.

JJ is slightly ahead over AK offsuit and slightly behind to AK suited (when heads-up). So your friend is right.

Incorrect. JJ is always ahead of AK, regardless of suits.
