PokerStars not going anywhere

Postby Gunslinger » Wed Oct 11, 2006 7:29 pm GMT

statement:

"As you are probably aware, the United States Congress recently enacted the Safe Port Act which contains provisions relating to Internet gambling.

PokerStars has received extensive expert advice from within and outside the U.S. which concluded that these provisions do not alter the U.S. legal situation with respect to online poker. Furthermore it is important to emphasize that the Act does not in any way prohibit you from playing online poker.

Therefore, our business continues as before - open to players worldwide including the US. You may play on our site as you did prior to the Act.

PokerStars believes that poker is a game of skill enjoyed by millions of players and we remain committed to providing you a safe and fun environment in which to play.

We value your loyalty to PokerStars, and look forward to continuing to serve you with the best online poker experience, as we have for the past five years, six billion hands, and 40 million tournaments."

This is very good news for me, as Stars has always been my favorite site. However, I am sad that I won't be able to qualify for the WSOP online anymore. :( That was going to be my first choice of doing so, as I'm pretty set on trying to play it next year.

So as I read the above, even that the pres. signed the bill, PS isnt preventing US players from playing there correct? Just wondering what will happen if a US player ends up winning something like the sunday million tourny how would a US resident get his/her money?

Playing online Poker is not illegal nor did this bill make it such. If, say, as US player won the Sunday Million, he could legally withdraw the money to Neteller and then legally deposit it in a US bank account (as far as the bill covers).

All this bill did was prevent banks and credit card companies from doing business with online gambling sites. So far, Neteller has not been blacklisted, and it is not illegal (Federally) to play Poker online.
