5star deal chips
Alright....
I currently own 300 suited dice 11.5 gram dice chips. My friends and I want to pick up at least 1000 more chips cheaply to build our chipstack for poker tournaments. Now here's where my question comes in:
How are the chips here:
http://www.5stardeal.com/deals/10Expand ... 10-1010-1k
versus the chips here:
http://www.5stardeal.com/deals/10Expand ... 10-1090-1k
The fact that I can get 2000 for the same price as the other is tempting, so tempting...

well if your goin to get the cheaper non 11.5 ones. those ones weigh about 5-6 grams and have a total plastic fisher price feel to them. So if I were you I would stick with the 11.5. Otherwise I'd say just get a custom set, but I see price is kinda an issue. good luck

Bad reply.
The "non 11.5 ones" do not weigh 5-6 grams. They weigh 9 grams, which is actually closer to real "casino weight" than the 11.5 gram, metal-slug chips.
Also, the 9 gram chips feel A LOT LESS LIKE "plastic fisher price" chips when compared to the 11.5 gram ones. They also sound more like real chips (no metal "clink" when they hit the pot)
Bottom line: you already own some of the 11.5 gram chips. Do you like them? If so, and if you want to keep your chips all the same, you should shell out the x-tra cash for more of them. If you don't care one way or another, plunk down the $100 and get 1,000 9-grammers. They're decent chips for $0.10 a piece.

I have a set of the 9gm chips and think they're fine. I didnt want to get the 11.5g chips b/c imo they look cheap. There are some quality issues with the 9g chips, but if you're only using it for tourneys it shouldnt be a problem.
The issues are laid out here:http://www.geocities.com/popeyoni/
I have 3 sets of 200 picked up from TJ Max in my local mall. Of the three sets there are two different "styles". One has a more clay feel (the kind you get from 5star) and the other has a more plastic feel. IMO the clay feeling chips sound nicer and stack better than the more plastic ones. The difference in quality, however, is slight. The more plastic ones have a uniform finished look, meaning completely rounded edges, no loose plastic hanging or that can be torn off (see the pictures from the link above). The more clay chips do have a few chips where this occurs, and the edges arent rounded.
hope this helps!

oh, one more thing, it really depends on how many people you're going to have in your tourny.
Is it only 10 people? 20 people?
Here's a good excel sheet made by Supa-T check it out

Yeh, there are 9 grams ones out there too. Those are fine, I like those actually way better than the 11.5 metal slugs. But there are cheaper plastic chips out there as well, and those are the ones I was talkin about. My friend has a 300 set of them, and they are like a notch above those bicycle plastic wafer ones. He got them at some Place that sold baby cribs and they had a section with tables and had a set of poker chips, with a spin around carousels.
Sorry shoulda been more specific about the chips. The thing is they don't advertise them as being that light, but I don't think you will run into a set of those crappy chips.
just to make things clear the 9 grams ones are not fisher pricey, just watch out for the lighter ones that are under 8 grams
