MTT final tables
Anybody share their thoughts with how i played this..... FInal table of $3000 mtt 4 left. Im 2nd (55k) after a slightly larger chip leader(63k). blinds are @ 2k and 4 k. I get AK hearts on the bb, chip leader raises to 12k all fold, i gotta re raise, hands like this have been scarce. I re raise it to 25k he calls. flop comes 10h 7h 10c..... im pretty sure he has not got any tens back there, and i got the hearts i was looking for... i think of how much to bet.. the pot is about 50 k and i only got about 20k left..... i decide to move all in, hopefully he will fold whatever he has... perhaps KK/AA (but would expected an all in preflop) so i feel relatively safe, and should i check it he would surely bet at me anyway and i would lose all hope of folding this boy. I go all in, he turns over QQ ....turn and river bring no ace ,king or hearts, so i crash out in 5th place after i had such a massive lead on 3rd and 4th. Is there anyway i could have avoided this...... the way i see it is when i get hands like that i have to play them ... but it seems to do me more harm than good - the guy in 4th place finished higher than me from folding every hand...... what do u say guys?

What was the difference in the payouts? If it was pretty significant I would have check after the flop and seen what he would have done. He likely would have tried to make a bet that you would call, since he really can't put you on hearts. Then maybe you could have seen the turn cheaply and gotten out after that. That way it leaves you way down in chips, but you could have waited for a hand to double up with. It's all about surviving at the final table, and the chip leader is the only guy you don't wanna try to push around.

I agree that AKs is a big hand, especially shorthanded but survival is key...checking to the river wouldnt have been the end of the world cos u may have him beat anyway or alternatively your beat and you are still in, granted short stacked but still in. If he called the huge raise pre flop its unlikely hes going to fold on flop anyway even if he has very little.

just re reading this old post. I disagree totally with the replies, with myu stack and my intention to win the mtt there is no other way than to get it in on the flop, bb is 4k and i got 55k when the hand started, after the raises and stuff i gonna have a pretty weak stack. That flop is sickly nice, i push that like 98% of the time and check call all in the ohter 2%

the only different thing you could've done is called instead of reraising. I know it's a weaker play but 5 handed and you know you're heads up going to the flop just calling the bet would disquise your hand a lot better, not to mention keep you from getting committed so fast.
BTW... I don't think, when THEY're in that situation, folds with a 20k stack in a 50k pot with 15 outs

check folding the flop obvious is a no no, checking it down could be a option cause our hand does have showdown value. Shoving would be my first instinct on the flop and im sure I would of done it.
