Login Issues?

Postby vyni » Tue Mar 06, 2007 10:40 pm GMT

2 users today stepped forward with login issues, which is now a priority.

Here's the temp fix for a user experiencing problems but really needs to get his thp forum fix: thpblog.com is an alternate local for the forums and blogs. Your login there is exactly the same as it is on the thp parent.

Code has been reviewed, and I have yet been able to duplicate the problem here. My reaction/thoughts at this point are that this is product of a different cookie issue that was corrected yesterday (involving the proper tracking of topics new and marked read). If a user had browsed the forums yesterday before I was in and corrected the problem, the thp forum was attempting to set new topic tracking cookie for every virtual folder that displays the threads. What does that mean? If you reviewed 30 threads, the forum tried to set 30 different copies of that cookie. The good news is that those cookies validity expired at the end of the user session: if you've never closed the browser (like I never do), you very well may be carrying those cookies around with you.

You can also determine this if you're carrying around a session id in the url as you browse the site: it's possible here that the users experiencing problems are being mistaken for bots by my mods. It's an seo thing: if you don't understand it, it doesn't matter to you. lol

If your browser supports deleting cookies specific to only a single domain, go for it but I wouldn't delete all of your cookies for something like this. The session should expire when the browser is closed completely. Firefox, close all windows. Ie, again all windows but she's such a pain that a sys reboot wouldn't be uncalled for. I see a few funcs in the original phpbb package I'm going to edit here to help correct another possible scenario. If the problem continues past this, please inform me asap!
