Postby ladybug » Mon Apr 02, 2007 10:54 am GMT

Hi Guys
My aunt has decided that it's time for the ladies to go on a bit of a trip (she's recently divorced and a tad delusional).Anyway, she's taking my mother,my sister and me to Las Vegas! We want to go to all the major casinos and to the clubs.Any suggestions?
I can't really play poker or anything. Can anybody give me some pointers as to how I should go about it so as I don't look like too much of an idiot :) ?

When and where will you be playing????

If you just want cheap drinks and cheap play, here are some basics that will keep you from getting cleaned out.

Play limit, only play 2 face cards or pairs of 9 or better. Play your blinds too in unraised pots.

Raise preflop w/ AA KK QQ AK AQ and just call w/ anything else. Fold if someone has raised before you act and you dont have AA KK QQ JJ 10 10 AK AQ.

Dont say anything for the 1st hour, just observe others so that you know what to do and when it do it.

Even better, find a spot to watch a limit table for a while, just to get used to the betting/blinds/et cetera.

Most casinos will offer lessons (usually sometime in the morning), which will give you the basics of how the game is played (i.e., when blinds are posted, how to act in turn, et cetera).

If you're stumped, just sitting there will work. The dealer will let you know when it's your turn to act.

All this advice goes by the wayside if you're going to be there around the first of May; in that case, you want to find wherever I'm playing. :-D

my advice is to learn the best starting hands and only play those hands if you want to have some money, otherwise it will take too long to learn advanced strategy before you go
