Poker Books Con't

Postby Moon_Child » Tue Oct 30, 2007 8:12 pm GMT

i know there has been many threads on poker books, but i want to know which books outta the ones i gotten down to are actually worth reading. which will actually improve my game and can help me become a little bit better poker player.

-Super System 2 by Doyle Brunson
-Small Stakes Hold’em by David Sklansky
-The Theory of Poker by David Sklansky (1989)
-Hold’em Poker for Advanced Players by David Sklansky
-Professional No-Limit Hold 'em: Volume I" by Matt Flynn, Sunny Mehta, and Ed Miller

i was planning to purchase them all, but it's not about the money. as a student full time, i don't have time to read them all...

can u guys help me choose the top 3 and let me know why u choose them and why u didn't choose the other ones?

thanks a bunch ^^

I like theory of poker, not very fond of the others. SS is an interesting read since its like a 'total approach' so it reflects a lot on the entire game in question and how you can use this 'bird's view' to your advantage, but as a strategic hand-by-hand book it is not good.

ToP teaches you a good way to think about poker. So I'd read that and someone else can prolly recommend you one of the NL books.

I like how Slanksy explains odds and probabilities better then other books. Personally I think any book on poker is worth the read. If your going to invest in them might as well read them. No one says you have to read them like you would one of your text books. Of the ones you listed I think these two would be your best purchases.

SS2 is ok if you want to read about various other types of games. It doesn't give a really big read on any one game. It touches strong points on several games. Unless your looking at expanding into other games then SS1 or 2 would probably be a waste of your $$$.

am now reading Theory of Poker after reading No Limit Theory and practice, and I have to say that in this order Theory of poker leaves me a little cold.

I would highly recommended NL Theory and Practice.

okay... so the first book I picked up was, Hold’em Poker for Advanced Players by David Sklansky and i have to say this book was very informative and i think it would of been a great book for me if i was a limit player, but i'm a no limit player. it had a lot of useful information in it that could help me with my nl game, but i need a book thats good for nl200 and under.

i buy these book off ebay when they are cheap like 20 dollars so i dont get a chance to read them, does anyone know if any other books are for nl?

Small Stakes Hold 'em = a limit or nl book?
this auction is about to end soon so i wanna pick it.
