Random Thought
Andrew, a dealer at Binion's, once told me he likes to deliver bone-crushing, bankroll-crushing, soul-crushing river cards. He said he enjoys slamming people's nutsacks in car doors. Andrew enjoys his job.

It was kinda funny, since I dealt to this guy maybe 2 or 3 years ago during the Binions American Poker Player Championship, and we were just bullshitting with each other before the tourney started. We were somewhat joking around, and I mentioned the above quotes. He then said he was writing a book and would I mind if he titled one of the chapters "the Bankroll Crushing River Card". Of course I didn't mind, and he actually took out a pad and pen and wrote down my name.

Somewhat forgotten about over the years, but still occasionally wondering if it ever happened, fast forward to about 3 weeks ago as I'm dealing one of the weekend $330 tourneys at Caesars. It's the final table, and I just deal a horrible river bad beat and someone gets knocked out. One of the players still in, Tony Korfman, the author of the book, is sitting in the 8 seat, and after the bad beat, he looks at my name tag & asks if I used to work at Binions, because that was a "soul-crushing river card". It immediately hit me right then and there that that was the guy, and I asked if he ever wrote his book. He says he did, and he'll give me one.

So once my "down" was over and I was getting up to go to another table, he says a friend of his is going to his room to bring me down a book, and to see him before I leave. Sure enough, 30 minutes later, he has a book waiting for me, and tells me I'm on page 170. Awesome deal, and he signed a copy for me.

FYI, the author used to run the Hacienda or one of the other now demolished casinos, and has been in the casino business for like a thousand years.

If you get a chance, the book is a good read, with mostly anecdotes and observations and generalizations about poker, casinos, and the lifestyle. No real strategy, other than the occasional tidbits of how cash game strategies differ from tourneys, position, etc.
