if you are playing with other people who only know the rules but dont play poker often, or are just starting out, dont bother trying to bluff too much unless you have a good draw. usually people dont know any better and will call with a pair of twos when you are trying to bluff with only a king or ace high... if people agree, thats cool. if anyone disagrees, just go ahead and delete this topic. i just thought i would add this, cuz i havent heard it said by many people, and i think it is something people should keep in mind. also, when people say off the wall phrases when they are drinking- pay attention.... this guy i was playign with once (just met him) decided to say (forgot what it was) every time he got a high pair or better lol.... it really helped to know what he had in every hand lol... oh yeah, it was santa maria that he would say.... so i took his 5-10$ (unfortunately, only cheap-skates play where i live) and ever since then, he comes back and plays trying to get even :P and he never says santa maria no more, so im guessing people dont really notice if they had enough to drink lol.... ok, that was a long post, so ill stop while im ahead....

Indeed bluffing is representing something. If you’re opponents are incapable of understanding what you’re trying to convey it’s pointless.

Bluffing at idiots is like pointing a gun at a blind man.

...and yes tells can be helpful, a friend of mine always used to put his hand over his mouth when one of his pocket cards was an ace.
