What hands can you value bet in Stud/8

Postby davepoker » Wed Jan 30, 2008 11:28 pm GMT

I started playing more stud/8 and i was wondering what kind of hands are bettable on the end. For example, 2 small pair like eights up against a player going low. Assume that we were going low as well and backed up into 2 pair. We were betting the whole way and we have no info on the other player hands since he didnt showdown anything.
How about an 87 low with 2 pair like 55 and 44 against a player drawing to a 75 low and possible straight?

Anytime you have a hand that can potentially win both high and low against a player likely going one way, it's probably worth a value bet. A hand like 8755442 can actually be pretty profitable, but it's dangerous to bet into a board like xx7542x, because you will not usually be called on the end unless you are splitting, and you will likely be raised if you are beat. However, when you make a low with even two small pair, it's usually worth betting the end against an obvious high, hoping that they have been calling down with an unimproved pair (plus, even if you are raised, you will probably not be scooped).
