Hero Call?

Postby Sentinel » Tue May 06, 2008 9:05 am GMT

720 runners for a 1st prize of entry to a top $2200 buy in tourney .

55 left, I am sat in 10th with 25k. Blinds 500/1000. In SB with QK os, I was to throw away but 3 limpers give me excellent odds so I call the remaining 500.

Flop comes 9h Qd 10h. First to act moves all in for 12k and all else fold. I tank along these lines:

If he had AA or KK, trips or he would've raised pre flop and wouldn't go all in on such a drawy board.
Nor would he go all in with 2 pair.
Had he flopped a straight he'd surely check or value bet. Best bet was a draw (OES str8 or flush) a missed AJ+ or lower pocket pair.
In short, his bet has desperation written all over it, especially as he was down to just 12bb.

My holding is marginal but feel top pair and up to 9 outs to improve - plus giving me some breathing space and a chance to push on in in the tourney if I take the pot - makes me call.

Analysis please.

Winner gets the package. Remaining 9 get sat into $109 event for the same event.

and it was far from an insta call. Were blinds not so high, I woulda folded.

if its winner take all u have to take any +ev spot
the seats change things a little but i dont think u play to win the 100$ seat
hence if i think i'm +ev against his range i insta call

Wouldn’t you be first to act if you were in the SB or did you check. If you checked and it was the BB to act first in a limped pot, then he could be in there with two pair 9T.

I also question if a player would not go all-in on a drawy board, this would encourage a player to push with over pair IMHO.

I do agree that 12bb will push to survive but pushing into 3 other players without a hand is risky. So I would presume he would have some part of this or a very good draw, but you also have outs so I am presuming it a race and I could go either way on the day.

I musta checked to him, no idea why, unless I was worried about spewing chips unnecessarily.

Which is ironic as I called his shove.

I think he played the hand badly, considering the board, and others still to act.

Anyway, he caught me off guard and flipped pocket aces.

Probably limped dying for someone to raise (obviously knowing what he had). Gid correcto, fold is probably smart idea.
