Question about all-in bet smaller than big blind.

Postby dreamr35 » Tue Jul 08, 2008 2:18 pm GMT

I have a question that came up in a game I was in yesterday. We are playing a Texas HoldEm No Limit tournament. Blinds are 1000/2000. After the first round of betting, there are 4 players in the hand. Flop is dealt. 1st Player checks, 2nd player goes All-In for 800. Can the next player to act just call the 800 or does he have to make the minimum bet of 2000 and then take 1200 back if no one calls him?

Any clarification on this would be greatly appreciated.

I am nearly positive that he can just call the 800.

What is a rule and where the confusion might come from would be if the big blind just has 800. If that case, any preflop limper and the SB would need to call 2000. They would NOT be able to just call the 1000 SB.

You can never bet less than the BB if you have the chips to do so. The only way it ever really works that you get in for less than the BB is if someone goes AI short, and then you raise and everyone else folds. Then you get to pull back any chips that are in excess of what the other player has (plus, you automatically win however much over his count the BB was).

You can call a small all in bet that is less than the BB though.

According to what you said, if the BB has 2010 and bets 10 post flop, you would need to call 2k and not 10? Not true.

How would that work?

SB has 5K
BB has 5K
UTG has 500
You have 10K

blinds 500/1000

If he is AI for 500, you still have to call the BB bet of 1K, otherwise, say you call 500 and bb checks?

We're talking about post-flop. Not preflop.

Post flop you can go allin for any amount, and the other players only have to call up to that amount.

So if players A, B and C have the following stack sizes:

A: 10000 (Small blind posts 500)
B: 5000 (Big blind posts 1000)
C: 3100

With the blinds at 500/1000, player C raises to 3k preflop. Player A calls. Player B calls.

The flop comes out, player A checks. Player B checks. Player C moves all in for 100 chips. Players A and B would only have to call 100 to play.

Well, then I'm an idiot for not reading the question properly.
