sunday 200k
hey guys! thanks for the warm welcome, i'm gonna jump right into my 1st question. i won a ticket to the sunday two hundred grand through a satellite. (pokerstars) so i'm set to play here in a few days.
i was browsing through the tourney lobby for the one from last sunday, 22,600+ entrants! that's a pretty big field. good risk/reward ratio though, so it seems.
so, has anyone here played in this particular tourney, or one similar? i'd like to go in there with a better idea of how tough the playing field will be, and what would be an optimal strategy against so many opponents. i'm not a complete noob to mtt's, but i've never been involved in a tourney with a prize pool even remotely that big.
all suggestions welcome,
TIA.

I have played in this tournament several times. It is a good value for the money, as you get in a large prize pool with a lot of VERY bad players. The only downsides are it takes a long time to win what is often very little, you need to outlast a huge field (but great payday if you do), and the structure means that there is a lot of push/fold Poker after the first couple hours.
The field will be very soft. Frankly, it is probably the softest field of any non-freeroll tournament on PokerStars. ABC Poker is pretty much the name of the game. Just play tight, don't make a ton of mistakes, and hope you get good cards. Nothing fancy is required, but it will take a lot of luck to win.

and time. Didn't a THP member (maybe Ciso???) go quite far recently. If I remember correctly it took 9 hours to get the the final table.xDiamond_CutteRx wrote:Nothing fancy is required, but it will take a lot of luck to win.
Of course, the payouts start along time before then, but you get the idea.

Ciso was in the Sunday Mil, which typically runs 9-10 hours. The $200K typically runs about 7-8 because it has faster levels, despite having like triple the players.
I will probably be playing the $200K today, and maybe the Mil if I satellite in.

Cash In Ticket
I have won several tickets to this tourny but have never played it because of the time needed. Instead, PS lets you "Unregister" for a tournament and accept the buy-in value as "Tournament Dollars" (T$). You can use these to buy into any tournament and I use mine (usually) for $5 SnG tournys.
Welcome.
