I think I play it the same way. You need to protect your trips and try and play the pot heads up. The original raiser may have A23 but then he could easily have AA2* in which case you are free rolling high and low.
If I didn't have the nut low draw to go with this hand then it's even more of a difficult decision and I may end up mucking it, but with the NLD I think you have to play it the way you did.

You can't really freeroll until you have the nuts one side.
But anyway, in Hi/lo gam most of the times you'll only win half the pot, scooping is so hard.
Your job is to try to get more money in when you have a scooping chance and when there are few people and they are not likely to share your nut.
In this case, you have a very good high with the nut low, the money should go in all the time.
And look at the results, even if you only won the low you'd still make 1.5xyour investment as it was 3 way.
