Here we go again!!!!

Postby Tralfaz » Sun Oct 26, 2003 1:12 pm GMT

Hey All:

You may remember my failed attempt to win a seat in the UB Aruba WPT even. I finished one place away from getting my trip. (3rd out of 400 something  )

Anyway, PS is having two level freerolls to win a place in their WPT event on a cruise in January. Well yesterday I played in a first level event and won a seat in the second level. (Finished 5th out of 90 something - top 9 got seats). Today I will play in the final level. There will be approximately 200 players and the top 4 finishers get the cruise, $1,000 and the $7,500 buy-in.

I don't put my chances very high because all 200 people in this event had to win an earlier Tourney just to get there. Ah but one can always dream!!!

I plan on playing tighter than a virgin on prom night unless I have premium cards - and then I will go hog wild

Anyone who has any advice - Now is the time. My play seems to consistently get me through the early stages of the tourney, but I can't quite make it into the winners circle!!! So any help appreciated.

I'll let ya know what happens

Like the last posts, I have no brilliant words of wisdom but all I can say is you seem to know what it takes to get to the final seats so do whatever you're doing and don't switch your play because of the situation. Good luck guy and bet'em if you got'em. I'll be looking for the update.

Well things were going well until. . .

First off, I was seated at the slowest table on the internet. for the first hour 3 people were sitting out (did make the race to steal their blinds interesting) and one guy never showed up. (On the upside it made it easier when I had to take a leak) There were at least three people at the table who would use the maximum time before making a decision on every hand.

It is frustrating when the table is so dead that you can't build your stack. Anway, I was doing well (slightly above average and maybe 40 - 50 people had been knocked out already) until I ran into the dreaded pocket AA.

I had AJ suited and raised it up preflop. The flop came garbage, garbage Jack. Well I was rearing to get me some chips so when the other dude bet I raised it up substantially. A small war ensued and when the dust settled we ended up all-in. Well of course he was sitting on AA and I lost. Deservedly so, I might add. I was just so frustrated seeing the chip leaders stacks getting bigger at other tables that I lost it for a moment.

Alas, in NL Holdem, it seems that a moment is all it takes to go bust. Ah well, I shall try again and in the mean time maybe I'll take up meditation or something so that I don't allow boredom and frustration to control my game.

Maybe I should take a valium before every tourney?? Or read a book while I play to help kill time?? Hmmm, I like the valium idea better - gotta go call my Doc. talk to ya soon

Tough break. That is the hardest thing for me to do is control my competiveness and let hands go-esp heads up in NL. I have played 4-5 big(500+ players) NL tourneys and consistantly finish in the top 1/3-20% of players, but havent cashed in yet. When I look back, there is always one hand that I loose too much on and am left short stacked. However, w/out betting strong on some weaker hands, I wouldnt have gotten there in the 1st place.

I do very well in single table tourneys, limit or no limit. But I think I need to play more multitables before I can start cashing in (with some luck too!).

For the people that do well in multitable tourneys-what are your percentages? Do you get in the money on 1/3, 1/4? More or less? Just curious.

Dave:

I have had the same experience. I do very well in one and two table sit and go Tourneys. (generally finish in the $$ 50 - 60 % or more of the time.) I have only finished in the $$ once in a large tourney (although it was small consolation because the $1400 didn't compare to a trip to Aruba).

I did finish one place ouyt of the $$ in a $50 NL on PS that started with around 300 people (I think I finished 40 something). I have basically benn using the sit and go's and 2/4 limit rooms to pay for my buy ins to the larger tourneys.

Gotta keep on trying though. I figure If I can learn to stay focused and in control for the 4 + hours of a larger Tourney I should be able to finish in the $$. We will see. I will try and try again until I get it right. (or go broke trying - although I have shown a slight net profit this year so I'm OK thus far).
