Buy in question

Postby Binman77 » Tue Apr 21, 2009 2:17 am GMT

Hi
Just wondering, whats the difference between buying in Full amount in ring game and buying in lets say 60% of the full amount?

Whats the major different? What are the up and down side of those?

Thank you for helping.

From my experience I have learned a few main differences.

If you are a good player, buying in for the max gives you more opportunity to make money since you have more to bet with.

On the other hand, if you are a sketchy player, it gives you more opportunity to lose money since you have more to lose.

Aside from that, there are other aspects.

Buying in for less can make you appear weaker to larger stacks. Especially if you buy in for around 20%
It also causes you to play tighter which is good if you are too loose.

Plus if you do lose your buy in, you are only out 20% of the max instead of the whole way.

I'm sure wiser players can add some other insights.

Limit your buy-in limits the implied odds for and against you. You need to understand the difference between a deep stack and a short stack poker, so will your opponents to correctly play against you.

You either buy in full, or buy in 20%. In between makes little sense.

Playing 20% buy in with a good sound shortstack strategy can be very effective.

Can I ask why is in between making no sense?

Your stack size will leave you in very awkward positions, reducing any advantage you might gain from being either very short (making it easy to get all-in), or fairly deep (extending your post flop edge).
