When you move tables, how long do you wait before playing

Postby jimmer » Sat Oct 03, 2009 4:42 pm GMT

Played my second tourney today. It was a $2.20 NLHE 6 max table tourney with 3,000 starting stack and 15 minute blinds. I think I prefer the idea of a bigger starting stack. I just felt more comfortable limping pots from position and then making my choices on the flop and turn.

I built my stack to 10,000 and was starting to think "I could really get addicted to these tourneys" when all of a sudden I take a bad beat against the table chip leader and I finish in 1879th place. (6014 entered!).

I think i already have a small bad habbit though, I keep darting back to the tourney lobby to see what position I'm in and how many players left until i hit the money. I guess I'm like a little kid in a sweet shop!

Anyway, my question today is;
When you are moved to a new table, do you sit tight for a while and observe how the rest of the table are playing or do you just dive in and get on with your game?

I will probably play closer to ABC Poker since I don't know the other players and I probably don't have an image to work off, but I don't see any reason not to play immediately if the opportunity emerges.

The first thing I do when moved is look at the other stacks. Just a quick mental note of those I may not want to tangle with.

If I get a hand/position/situation I like, I'm going to get in there, first hand or not. But the notes I made above may make the situation less palatable, depending if the big stacks are in front or behind me.

I mean, that's what I'd do if I ever lasted til my table broke...

First of all it is not so good decision to stack up with the chipleader even with KK.
Here is an explanation about that.
http://www.poker-scholarship.com/2009/09/improve-your-skills-by-killing-the-luck/
You cannot always win and it is so bad to be out of the tournament after a lot of work on your stack.
OK. To be honest... I should do the same... All in!!!  but that's the truth.

I have to aggree with xDiamond_CutteRx about ABC poker and take advantage of opportunities and with golddog about other players' chipstacks.
The
most improtant is to play in position and start pushing when you are deep in mid-late stages of a tournament, because anyway players come and go and you have to start from the beginning with any new player on you table.
I think you need reads for difficult decisions. For stealing some blinds or raising in position with a good hand and Cbet wih your TPTK et., just do it!
