The Fives of November
Four November hands where I got screwed by fives. All were in the Stars $2.20 SnG satellites to the Su $1/4 million. Hands 1 & 2 are in different tournaments while hands 3 & 4 were the same tourny.
Hand 1: Villain #1 immediately to my left is a hyper-aggressive moron who is constantly raising, including all-in, with a staggeringly stupid range of hands. I look down under the gun at pocket aces and decide to limp hoping to induce a table-clearing raise from villain and it works. Villain is all in, I call, and villain shows A-6 offsuit. Whoooeeee. Then board proceeds to lay down quad fives for a split pot.
Hand 2: Villain #2 is also immediately to my left and isn't in the pot quite as often as Villain #1 but has been in frequently, with frequent over-raises with moronic cards (any ace and any pair) but has gotten lucky frequently. We're midway through the tournament and I'm at 1/2 the chip average and look down at A-K suited. I shove all in and villain raises all in and shows (you guessed it) pocket fives. Villain flops a set, I turn Broadway, then he rivers--not just a full house but quads to add that special twist to the dagger on the way into the grave.
Hand 3: Villain #3 is a lot like #2. I'm above the chip average midway through the tourny and have Villain #3 covered by about 250 chips. I look down in early position at pocket aces and raise 4x big blind. Villain is all in and I call. He shows--wait for it--pocket fives. He flops a set and cripples me.
Hand 4: Same tournament as #3 just a couple of hands later and I look down at, YES!!! Pocket Fives!! Victory must be assured. I'm all in, three callers to my limp stack, and of course the charm didn't work.
