Is it legal???
Okay, another noob question. My friend at work said betting on the online poker sites is illegal. So what is the deal. How can you collect winnings and pay the taxes if you can not claim the winnings. Is there a source for me to go to for the info. If you do not want to post public you can message me.

The rules in the US have gradually changed over the last 6 months and in certain instances, your friend is right.
Have a look at this board and feel free to ask specific questions on there.

In new york state it is not illegal to play online. You must legally declare your winnings and pay taxes on them. Several high stakes regulars come from New York, declare their poker income and have absolutely no problems. If your credit card lets you deposit, you will have no problems withdrawing.. declare the winnings or they'll arrest you like Capone.

I have a separate Visa debit card checking account (separate from our regular checking account)for my Palpal account when I do eBay stuff. I figured I would put my deposit amount in that account and then use that to make my first Poker Stars deposit. I live in Michigan by the way. Does any one see any potential issues with that? I had the intentions of claiming winnings on my taxes so that is not an issue.

I wouldn't worry about winning anything.

It depends on your location
I think that in every country in the US there are other rules. You should check NY out if you're playing there.

Let me preface this page by saying that I am not an attorney and you should certainly not take my words as legal advice. However, I have extensively researched this subject, received advice from those who are attorneys, and have followed this legislation's progress every step of the way. Here is what you need to know:
"Is the recent US legislation a ban of online poker?"
Very simply put, "NO!!!". Where did the misguided suggestion that the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act is in any shape or form an "online poker ban" come from? Most likely, it is the result of the mainstream media doing a horrendous job of covering the story.
The entire legislative process for this bill has been a disgrace to our government and should have received nationwide outrage and extensive media coverage. Instead, newspapers and cable news channels glossed over the subject with headlines like, "Online Gambling Made Illegal" or "Senate Decides to Outlaw Online Gaming". For more details got to http://www.heracasino.com/ they will provide all the info . the you need.

It depends on the state where you are, if you are in NJ or in California then you don't have to worry about since online poker is now legal so you bet and withdraw whenever you want to.

There are some states in the US that were allowed to play online casino and there are some other states consider playing online casino is illegal. If I were you I will check on the location if it belongs to those areas that do not allow online casino played by their constituents.
