First Live Tourney Report

Postby golfey » Mon Nov 30, 2009 2:10 pm GMT

on saturday i was competing in the north of Scotland regional red tooth poker league finals. 68 people, top 10 paid and top 3 places grabbed a seat at the final down in nottingham (i think).

Arrived there at 12.30 for registration and grabbed a few drinks. trophy presentations to the winners of the indivdual pubs was at 1.30 so i got my trophy from a well hot girl:).

Shuffle up and deal was at 2, 6000 starter chips blinds were at 25/50 for 45 mins then 15 mins after that.

First action hand i got was 10  10 :spade:. raised it from the button for 200 to go and got 2 callers. Flop came K J 4... first guy bets 250, 2nd guy calls and im out the hand, i never play many multi table tourneys but waiting for hands is killer  that was the only hand in the first level that was appealing to the eye.

Next level was a bit better, recieved A 8 :diamond:'s and limped in mid position.

flop Q :spade: 6 :diamond: 2 :diamond:

Checks all round

Turn 9 :diamond: (wayhey)

Guy bets 600, all fold and i flat call

River 3 :club:

Guy bets 1200 and i min raise to 2400 and he folds.

A few odd pots here and there and im at the 2nd break with 30 remaining.

now this is the hand which i should have maybe called , ill highlight it so people can comment

so im sitting with around 7500, get dealt A J on the button blinds are 300/600

First guy, shoves for 3600, gets called by the guy sitting before me, im only just covering the guy who called and still dont know about the 2 in the blinds, so i fold.... first guy shows A 4 and the second insta call was KQ and the Ace came on the flop. Not so much was i tilting but i was disappointed because at times i am far too cautious.

Last 16 and im dealt A Q blinds are now 1k and 2k

First guy acts and moves all in for 10k im sitting with around 8.5k , i call, the rest fold.

He turns AK. yikes.....

Flop came a King and i begin to stand up when the turn and river came 10 and J. couldnt actually believe it.

Last 14 and the blinds were 3k - 6k, average chip stake i think was around 22k and im sitting there with 17k, i get dealt Q :club: Q :spade: in the small blind and shove and take down the BB.

Once again the BB rotated to me and everyone folds bar the small blind who limped in, i Look down and see the A :diamond: , im squeezing this next card like mad praying its his Buddy the A  , but it turned out to be the 9 :club: . I think for a bit, assess my move. i look at the guys stack he has about 24k...so i shoved in the BB only to face an insta call...(o dear)

I asked him how big his ace was, he turns over K :spade: 3

Needless to say it was all over when his 3 hit the flop, and i was out in 14th, 4 away from the money

All in all though i had a great day, and look forward to gaining more live experience.

ps. first report so be nice!

The bold bit - snap fold AJ there every time. Ignore what those donkeys flipped, given the stacks, blinds and action you report, there's no way you call there ever.

Too bad about the final hand. When the blinds/average stack are like that though, it's just a lottery and unfortunately most UK tourneys suffer from that really badly because our structures are so shallow.

I agree with your play, there's no reason to risk half your stack for a chance to be dominated by one and maybe two other players. Had you been acting directly behind the first short stack, you could have made an isolation raise but that's still wild in my opinion.

Good fold.

As long as you enjoyed it. From what you described it sounded like an absolute crapshoot so unless you have a lot of luck on your side you were never going to do well.

Anyway, AJ is a fold and glad you had fun.
