My Aussie millions campain
Day 1 flight 3.
Most of the known pro's play in either the first or second flights to give themselves a rest before the second day. Not I, a bounty Tournament at 10 am included all the Full Tilt qualifiers and Full Tilt pro's, then the main event at 12.30pm. Heres hoping the bounty tournament finishes in time for me start the main event. The pressure on, Half way through the bounty tournament, no bounties average stack and thinking more about the main event, I look down see the ladies, in position with a pro to my right, he has a smaller stack and another pro’s bounty he had knocked out hanging around his neck, nice, its folded to him and he raises, the actions on me, only the blinds to follow, I RR, the blinds fold and pro calls the flop come A3Q, pro checks, I check, turn is 7, pro bets half his stack, I know he’s committed and push him all in, he calls and turns over AK, two bounties and a nice stack. At 12.15pm its heads up me and another qualifier, I have picked up another bounty, its down to who hits the flop, I have A7s villain turns over K5o and out draws me 2nd place $1000, 3 bounties $500 each $2500, nice.
The main event, my allocated table is in studio 3 the televised section, just what I need first big tournament and its televised, I make my way upstairs the studio has 6 tables, lights cameras and a viewing mezzanine floor, am I nervous no, the bounty tournament made me even more confident. Most of table spoke English, a few Americans, Scandinavians and Aussies, no recognisable faces but I’m not one to know anyway, apparently there were several Internet and one American pro at the table, one young guy supposable an internet pro LAG raises ever pot, fortunately he is 2 to my right and I can pick and choose when to act, the player immediately on my right benefits most and quickly builds a big stack, LAG is now short stacked and is moved to another table, dam I didn’t get enough of what was on offer, a player sitting quietly two to my left picks up the pace where LAG left of, he is now raising ever pot.
I win a few and loose a few small pots but feal comfortable, settling in for the long haul. After about 5 hours I look down and see the ladies, nice, they have been good to me today, blinds are now 300-150 and 25 ante, table numbers have been caped at 8 so is costing 650 a round, this time I’m UTG, I know it will get raised, so I just call, the new aggressor two my left raises it up 750, a player in the cut off who has been reasonably active calls, this means little the aggressor is raising light, the cut-of has position on us and I’m putting him on 88+ or AJ+, its folded back around to me the pot is now 2150, I RR 1500 making the pot 3650, aggressive player to my left folds and the cut-off calls, the flop comes 37J rainbow a great flop for my QQ, I bet 2500 and he calls, what could he be calling me with, AJ possible pocket 33, 77+, the pot is now 8650, turn 8, I’m still beating middle pairs TT 99, AJ A7s A3s but I don’t think the Ax is in his continuing range, I decide to have shot at the pot and lead out 4000 leaving me with around 12500 behind, he re-raises to 10000, I am now playing for my tournament life, it still bothers me today, I folded. These guys are not RR with top pair.
Now with a short stack, I am restricted to my opening range, playing only premium cards, I pick up several small pots but have difficulty rebuilding my stack, these players know all the tricks and folding to my raises becomes 2nd nature, after 11 hours my stack is 11500 the blinds are 600-300 antes 75 so its costing 1275 a round, I’m in a late position and its folded to me, I look down at TT and decide to push it all-in, I get one caller the BB who turns over KK and my day is over. 11 hours of main event poker, 1 limped pot in 11 hours and that was me fault, I was in the SB calling the blind.
I think I played as good as anyone at the table but the results were not there. I well, there is always another tournament and another day.
