Ethics question ?
When playing in a stt or mtt . Now say it gets down to 3 players. 1 of which you don't want to end up heads up against. Now is it unethical to try and make sure that that person goes out in 3rd.
for example laying down a hand when u r sure if you called you would take the one you want to be heads up against out if u pushed it. I don't mean mucking the winning hand I mean not calling when you are pretty sure you have them beat

Why wouldn't you want to be heads up against the other person?
And basically what you mean is softplaying the other guy so that he will play you heads up rather than the other person?
Yes, that's pretty unethical imo.

Re: Ethics question ?
No way this is un ethical. Have you ever checked it down when facing an all in short stack. How often do you avoid a good player and go after a bad one or attack a short stack. Poker is a very preditory game you win at the expence of the weak.

Re: Ethics question ?
Depending on the tourney of course, I don't think this situation would arise. I don't care who I'm playing HU unless by some massive fluke I'm three-handed with Phil Ivey and someone who started playing poker yesterday. I mean really, once three-handed in a tourney the edges are probably small enough that it doesn't matter.

Re: Ethics question ?
that is in no way unethical, its a prime part of tournament poker... for example on the bubble of a sng where top 3 pay and there is 4 left. If your opponents are all being nitty and waiting to cash is good strategy to fold to the short stack even if he is all in for the bb and u are in the sb. then u can carry on stealing off the medium stacks and keep the very tiny stack alive.
this is the same thing - you want the person who u fear most to bust out next.
I find your question ridiculous to be perfectly honest.
You are essentially saying "is it unethical to try and win a sng/mtt"

I don't have a problem with it but hate it when the other player takes out the one you want to play against, then this villain has all the gambling chips and your left thinking what could have been.

Re: Ethics question ?
No it wasn't my friend. I just preferred to play him heads up then the other opponent. I guess the closest thing I did to being poor ethics in that situation then was. I made a few big bets then folded to get the other person out and fed a few chips into the other guys hand.
It is just every time I have been heads up with player 2 he beats me. player 1 is easy to beat heads up.
I think I was probably borderline. Bullying one out then laying it down to the other

There is nothing wrong in trying to knock out players who can hinder your chances of winning.... you are there to win the tournament.
It is not borderline at all.
