Is there any kind of Pre Flop Hand Strength Chart?

Postby Barican » Tue Mar 02, 2010 7:58 pm GMT

Hello everyone!
My friend just got me into Texas Hold-em poker last week. I've been reading alot and learning alot, but one thing I would like to find is some kind of simple chart that tells the strength of a hand before the flop. For example, is a K-Q off better than a 2-2? I know a KQ off can make a straight but alone it is nothing where as a 2-2 is already a pair (which won't beat a straight) and it has possibilities to go up to a 4 of a kind and still beat the straight. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance.

Run AKs vs 22 (neither 2 of the AK suit) and AKs edges it like 50.1 / 49.9.

Outrageous huh? Make sure the prop covers 1,000,000,000 runs.

what we mean is that you take a deck of cards and actually deal out some hands.

you can do that as many times as you want but make sure to write down what the results are. then you just compare (9 times this happened 1 time that happened).

usually you have to do it like 50-100 times. takes a while but is necessary for an accurate result.

You don't need to run a Monte Carlo simulation. Holdem has a finite enough tree that deterministic results are available.
In other words, rather than having a program run AKs vs 22 over and over 1 million times, there are programs that run AKs vs 22 for each and every possible instance (which is 1.7 million anyway). That way there's no margin of error. There one on this site.

Here is --->AKs vs 22<---. It's a little different because it counts split pots.

Like every thing in poker it depends, run your figures again this time use the same suit of one of the 2's as the AKs and the two's come out on top. AcKc -v- 2c2h. But I think we all agree, we would sooner be calling or making a bet with AK rather than 22.

The edge of AKs vs 22 (with no shared suit to the AK) is higher than I thought at 0.17% actually.

Is there a closer flip in existence pre-flop? T9s vs A2o (no shared suits with the T9s) is 50.94% vs 48.58% in favour of A2o so that one is also very close.

What is the closest to 50/50 after the flop too I wonder? JsJh vs Tc9c on a board of 8c7c2h is 50.61% for the Jacks, 49.39% for the T9s.
