Quick question about chip weight

Postby DueceOS » Mon May 19, 2008 9:09 pm GMT

What is the typical weight of a casino chip? I see a nice deal on star for 10 gram chips, but I'm not sure if these are similar to casino size? I like my chips with some weight to them. Thanks in advance.

10 grams is about right, they can be lighter even. There's no one standard weight. You might google "poker chip reviews" to get more info and an idea of what's out there if you haven't made up your mind. Hope you enjoy your chips.

10g chips are good. I prefer a 10g composite chip over clay. Clay is more of an old school type chip, but get a nice composite chip with the logo/graphics molded in (not a sticker or decal), and you'll be happy for years to come.

I prefer Nevada Jacks, I got a set of the composite skulls free through PSO, and couldnt be happier. These are about as close to real casino chips as you will get.

Thanks for the responses.

What I'm specifically looking for is a set with a nice matted feel with casino chip weight, with denominations. I hate the slippery plastic chips.

I'm a newb when it comes to shopping for a quality chip.

Price range is everything.

Nevada chip offers through pokersourceonline are one of the most reasonable ways to get a beginner set (I did it too) and they're definitely good enough to start (weight + texture is good... dotting along the edge is pretty crappy).

If you want the better stuff just ebay ^_^

What Did You End Up Doing?

Postby lwestatbus » Wed Aug 13, 2008 5:17 pm GMT

What did you end up doing? If you're still shopping I really like chips where you can customize your own labels. If you browse through this forum (going back a few years) you can find some really great custom chips people have done over the years.

As far as texture and feel go the best reasonably priced chips I've seen are the NexGen Las Vegas chips. But I've also used the NexGen River Poker Tour chips (I live on a river) and for a great economical chip that really takes a nice label the plain composite Big Slick/Texas Holdem chips work well.

Here are some I've done

and

My all-time favorites were a set posted by ky70 in this forum but the images are no longer hosted on the original server. Bummer.

Re: Quick question about chip weight

The typical weight of casino chips that is being used in the US is only 8.5 to 10 grams however the standard casino chip weigh is about 13 grams. The authentic clay chips with slight variation of colors are between 9 to 10 grams while ceramic chips are just about 10 grams.
