Was this the correct way to play this hand?
HI,
I just blew my whole stack after playing for a >200 hands on a Pokerstars NLHE microstakes table. 0.01/0.02. I am hoping to move up in stakes when I can convince myself I have a game which is good enough. I am a beginner who prefers to play tight and try and make the most of decent holdings (though today they have been few and far between - I saw <20% of flops today - hardly any pairs or premiums).
I finally got AA in an early position against a guy who had been playing very loose and aggressive. He lucked out by catching a Q on the river to complete a gutshot draw straight, (grrr...) but I am wondering if this wasnt the way I should have played the hand at all. There were two eights on the board (so I could easily have been beaten by trips).
Any constructive criticism gratefully received.

A little correction - villain flopped open ended straight draw, not just gutshot.

Re: Was this the correct way to play this hand?
it's a dangerous flop. you only bet 1x pot - i would bet more on the flop. for instance, i doubt he would have called a 3x pot bet after the flop. he technically sucked out, but that happens often if you don't play AA's aggressive enough. I'm not saying you should never slowplay your aces - sometimes, that works out beautifully. Had he not caught that queen on the river you would have squeezed a lot of money out of him.
though you could choose either strategy (slowplay or aggressive), you should never get caught in between. For instance, your flop bet was weak - if you played it aggressive throughout, he most likely would have folded (post-flop, though if he called it because he's a donk, he woudl have been pot committed and kept on calling, which in that case there's nothing you could have done to avoid his donkiness). If you're goign to slowplay it, then you're just hoping your opponent doesn't have two pair or better, which is much riskier.

I'll say it, you should NEVER slowplay aces!
