Can anyone answer this simple question please
I was recently involved in a freezeout tournament and a player went all in, the dealer announced that it was only 700 for the next player to call the bet.
One of the other players insisted that the dealer was wrong in stating how much the minimum call would be and should in fact wait to be asked by the player next to bet if that player wanted clarification.
I have always apprceiated the dealer making the pot value and call value known.
Was the dealer wrong in announcing the call value or the other player for making it an issue?
Thanks and best wishes
Tony

One of the dealer's jobs is to provide players with information about the hand. Whether this should be offered without being asked I am not sure but everywhere I've played, the dealers state the action all the time and no-one has ever complained or indeed should complain.
The only way I could see an issue arising here is if the dealer said something to the effect of "it is ONLY 700 to call". Using a word like 'only' there offers something of an opinion that it is cheap to call which would be an error by the dealer but otherwise I cannot see any problem.

FIRST, yes, it is improper for the dealer to announce the amount of the bet or wager. When and only when requested to do so - or if a player asks 'how much' - then the dealer can breakdown/count the wager and thereafter announce to amount of the bet;
SECOND, It is also improper for the dealer to 'break down' the wager/bet without being asked to do so; and
THIRD, it is also improper for the dealer to announce or respond to a query regarding the amount in the pot (Exception: Pot Limit Omaha or any other pot limit game).
