Rule interpretation/thoughts
Played in a tournament yesterday. I would be interested in comments regarding this sequence of events. A local bar hosted the tournament. Overall a good venue wih a good reputation. The tables are trifolds and brought in for tournaments. Obviously this leaves seams in the table. On to the hand in question. I got pocket 8s in the big blind. Player in fifth position made a small raise. I called making a total of five players left in the hand.Flopped 8,8,Q. I checked. Opponent mad a big move. Two folds. I called. Truthfully, I can't remember the turn. Opponent made another big move. Two calls, myself included. River was 7. No help. Opponent made another big bet. Called by player in between us. I announced all-in. Had them both covered. Opponent asked how much I had. I slid my cards a little to the side to make a little room to count chips. When I slid the cards, one of them hit the seam in the table and flipped over, exposed an 8. Obviously unintentional. The opponent that had been making such big moves immediately started hollering that my cards had to be mucked for showing a card. I took the position that since this wasn't deliberate, I shouldn't be penalized. The tournament director ruled in my favor. my opponent raised all kinds of hell. Thoughts?

Given the shitty table you were playing on I'd rule in your favour. Oppo would have kept quiet if he'd been holding 77 no doubt............

From your saying "a local bar hosted" I'm presuming that it wasn't a cash buy-in, but one of those free games where the winner gets a bar tab or some such.
If that's the case, the guy getting all excited about it seems kind of out of line. Those are meant to be played for fun and nothing else.
I agree with Sugar. In that atmosphere, mistakes are to be expected, and as long as it's not egregious, let it go.

Even if you exposed a card by accident i.e not the table being shitty they would prolly let you off. Table being shit the tourney director def made right call.
