Stupid Question

Postby redd38 » Mon Aug 30, 2004 2:38 am GMT

I feel stupid for asking this so please keep the laughter to a dull roar lest you crush my self esteem.

In WPT tournaments they put like 1 million in cash on the table or whatever.... does the winner actually take home cash or do they give him a check? The must certainly give him a check right?

I'd personally love it if they'd let me take the cash up to my hotel room so i could sleep with it

yeah, that's what I thought too. As practical as a check is.... 1 million in cash has it's own simple joys

I think most winners have it wired to their bank. But I guess it would be up to them..

Sure it might be nice to sleep with your money but I think a check/wire transfer is more practical. First of all, a suitcase full of money is pretty heavy. Second of all, I don't think it would fit in a "carry all" meaning your $1 mill is in the luggage compartment. I'm just not taking that chance with the airline. Check please :D

I remember watching the U.S. Poker Championships that they held at the Taj and as guys at the final table busted out, the tournament director handed them bundles of cash. But I guess if I won the WSOP I wouldn't really want lug around my $5 million in a cardboard box. It's cool for TV and pictures and stuff, but I'd prefer a check...unless taking the cash will allow me to elude the IRS

I believe there is a form the casino makes you fill out for any winnings over a certain amount. Of course if you want to take the cash and go live up in the woods up in Canada, you may elude them that way :D

I think it was the 2003 WSOP, but one of those shows they did make the point of saying that unlike most events, you can walk right out of here with the cash.

I suspect the other people are right; you're probably welcome to take the cash, and take your own chances, but any sensible person would have it transferred somewhere safe.

Maybe take $10 or so up to the room... ;-)

Drugs And Tax

Postby ZIPPY » Mon Sep 13, 2004 11:53 am GMT

I would take away the money in the same way it was brought in... Either with a selection of showgirls, or in a stagecoach, harley etc and then, if legend is to be believed, scrape the $100 notes which should all have traces of coke on them and get off my tits for free!!!

Are winnings taxed in Las Vegas or the local state, as proceeds from gambling are usually tax free in good old blighty!
