Short-handed (?) ring games

Postby ScanX » Wed Dec 31, 2003 5:39 am GMT

Hi,

I've played a bit of ring games recently with 6 players max. (Fixed Limit $0.50/$1)

I tend to play it as if it was the end of a tournament with only 3 or 4 players left :

I call or even raise with hands like A6o etc...and I'm not sure if I'm right doing this (I'm even sure I'm wrong) so I would like to know your thoughts about it.

When I play ring games with 10 players I follow the rules written in Lee Jones book (winning low limit texas holdem).

Thanx in advance for the help

What did you think of Lee Jones Book?

I mainly play No Limit, but I do occassionally play limit - would it be worth a read?

I'm really new to poker and this is my very first book but I would definitely recommend it.

i wouldn't recommend playing a cash-game like a tourny. in my opinion hold'em cash games and hold'em tourneys are two different games. it all depends on if there's a time limit or a maximum number of re-buys.
in tourneys one mistake will hurt you bad, in cash games you can re-buy and win it back. i prefer cash games myself. i'm a tight player, i try to time in a nice hand and win a few big pots every now and then and let the other guys battle over the blind all they want ;)

One other issue I see with this stategy. Already mentioned above is that you aren't playing a tourney so we'll leave that, but you say you play as if there were only 3-4 players left. So here's the question. Are you playing against 2-3 players, or are there 6 people at the table? I don't know about anyone else, but 6 people at a tourney table and I'm still playing pretty tight. Just my .02

There are 6 players (including me) at the table

But it's true it has to be played tight actually and when there are 6 players left in a Sit&Go I play even tighter

I think I was lucky stealing the pots at the moment I wrote the message cause I ran into some problems lately :)
