Places to stay while in Las Vegas
Can anyone rate the best place to stay in Las Vegas considering two different types of trips, and considering that I've never been there.
1st trip:
You're going mainly to play poker, but would like to see some of the sights.
2nd trip:
You're going mainly to see the sights, but want to play some poker.
Any suggestions?

I think it depends on how much $$ you want to spend on your accomodations. I have been at NYNY and Luxor, both very nice places, not to expensive if you book far enough in advance. The Luxor, Excalibur, and Mandalay all have poker rooms and easy to walk to if you stay at one of these places. Also, they are on the 'newer' part of the stip, there is always something going on, clubs, shows, etc. For a cheaper place to stay, pick somewhere downtown, like the Golden Nugget, a very nice hotel for the price, plus it is next to Binions (if it stays open) - although Binoins seems to attract better poker players - but good to test your game with....
Again, as anything, it just depends, anywhere on the strip and you are close to action, downtown may limit your selection of card rooms unless you have a car or cab it to the strip. There's my $.02..

I like staying at Harrahs... fairly close to the Bellagio (my fav place to play in Vegas), and the employees there always just seem friendlier to me.
If you can spend the dough, stay at the Venetian. The rooms there will knock you out. They're truly nice. Both the Venetian and Harrahs are very close to the mirage and bellagio (the two big rooms on the strip)
