Sure, just go to your local computer software store, put on a black ski-mask, carry a firearm of your choice, and ask the store clerk to get you a new shrink-wrapped copy straight off the shelf! And there you have it: your free copy!

why are you giving him a hard time..

if he had asked where can i read supersystem for free, a good answer would be try the library.. a place full of copyright matereial that anyone can access for free (not to mention there is usually a photocopy machine in everyone of these places full of copyrighted material!)

so why should we feel so differently about software? only those who want to shell out dough should have access to it?

well every one is entitled to thier optinion i guess.

oh and by the way bigkev, i haven't seen it for free on supernova.org yet. it might show up sometime if it is still a new item. supernova is a site to find torrents to download with some bittorent client.

i just realized bigkev is a guest and left his gmail address. he might not even be back to read this. for all i know he is mr wilson himself checking to see if there is any word about his program being downloaded yet.

i definately need a coffee before i do anything else

Libraries have permission to stock books. Otherwise, they would be shut down.

i guess the we i was referring to was us as society. we have given libraries permission to give away copyright material (for good reason i think) for free. i think we (as society) just havent cought up in the software side of things yet.

(sipping coffee)

i didnt mean to offend anyone by saying that. i do understand the other side of the coin. my aunt, who recenlty passed, and i had had many discussions about this. she was an author and the discussions we had were usually about music and movies. she had many good points revolving around the struggling artist idea. i get that, too.

the library thing was just something a judge brought up in the latest ruling in canada where he decided that isp's had no right or obligation to disclose the names of people who were using bandwidth to download music to the big music companies. i never had the chance to talk about that one with my aunt. but the photocopy machine is quite a good point, i thought. he talked about many other things, too, of course.

Hey, it's up to the mods really. If they're cool with it, cool. If not, then they're not. I think if you want something, you should pay for it. Otherwise, the rest of us will have to pay out our asses when they jack the prices.

to expand on this........

The sharing of copyrighted material is currently illegal in just about every country in the world. (i think it isn't illegal in thailand, i may be wrong but for some reason that sticks in my head.) While you can debate the rights and wrongs of this, these are the facts as they stand.
On several other forums/discussion groups/websites, the discussion of how to obtain copyrighted material has led to a great deal of pressure, being brought to bear on the site owners and or hosts, and in some cases this has led to the site in question being closed down.
There are many sites which do explain the obtaining of copyrighted files from simple filesharing programs like kazaa to bittorrent sites to how to use IRC to obtain files. A simple search in google will bring up many results holding the info needed.
So we feel that it is better for this site to not discuss these matters on this forum as this is a poker site, not a filesharing site.
For these reasons, as Tony says, we will remove any discussions on how to illegally obtain copyrighted files.

oops sorry about that

as much as i personally don't neccisarily agree with the law itself, i don't want anyone to get in any trouble because of me. so for that same reason i won't tell anyone where to get any other kind of contraband either :P

thanks for the explanations. i'll refrain from that kind of thing from here on in.
