Small Stakes Hold'em

Postby yeltzen » Wed Dec 01, 2004 3:44 pm GMT

Has anyone else read this book?
I've found it to be pretty sub-par for a 2+2 book. It basically assumes that low-limit games are full of complete morons and gives you very little (if any) advice as to what to do when you realize that, *gasp*, most low-limit games have at least a few people in them who have some semblence of intelligence. They even tell you that you should assume everyone's an idiot until they prove otherwise. Not surprisingly, they also assume that you have a limitless bankroll and can afford to chase backdoor straights and flushes because, IN THE LONG RUN, they show a small positive expected value.

Give me a break. Unless you're a millionaire playing Hold'em with kids from an LD classroom, this book is not very valuable, in my opinion. WLLH is much more basic, and doesn't have you chasing longshot draws. Theory of Poker and Stepping Up both go into reading hands and odds, so I would advice reading one of them in conjunction with WLLH if you want more depth. I would stay away from this book, though.
