Stupidest match EVER

Postby Silencer » Fri Jan 16, 2004 4:59 pm GMT

Ok so I'm playing a free single table NL holdem tournament on partypoker. Since at least one person usually goes all-in on the first hand or two I never pay attention, I fold nomatter what I get. So I look back 2 minutes later and it's down to 4 players somehow. I have the original 800 chips cus I haven't done anything yet. One of the other players has about 4800 and the other two are even in the 2k range. Thus the real 'game' starts...

First hand, the player with 4800 goes all-in. Everybody else folds. The next several hands the exact same thing happens. This continues, the chip leader goes all-in every hand nomatter what he has and everybody folds. I make a comment about how he's a retard and should play the game instead of just making it a random luck draw.

Anyways one of the other players gets knocked out after calling so now it's only 3. On partypoker single table tournaments this is when I shift gears because once you reach 3rd place you at least get back the money you spent to enter the tournament (plus a little extra). There are like 5 guys watching, all newbs, cus they are all yelling at me for folding every single hand. You know, saying I have no balls and stuff cus I'm not calling all-in bet's with 74 offsuit. I get AK and decide to call, since chances are it is by far the bets hand. The chip leader of course goes all-in as well and so does the other player. I of course win the hand and then proceed to fold a ton of good hands, waiting for the perfect one.

Everybody is really yelling at me by this point cus I keep folding. I just kept telling them they had no idea how to play and that there are only 2 hands I will call with and I will patiently wait for them. Then it gets good. They start saying the chip leader is a good player because, obviously, he is the chip leader, and therefore beating me. The next hand I get KK and call, both players go all-in as well. I knock out the one guy and get most of the other guys chips. It was really fun pointing out their mistake and that I was now the chip leader :)

I fold a few more hands, a couple dozen. I drop down about 1000 in chips from losing blinds (which just got to 100/200) and of course everybody points out that I'm not the chip leader anymore and that I suck for folding so much. They all say that he is running right over me. I can see it's going nowhere so even though I had a relatively crappy hand I call, win the pot, and get 7800 out of the 8000 chips on the table :) I fold a few more hands, he gets up to about 1000, then I get QQ and call his bet and of course win the pot against his ridiculously low hand.

I swear we played at least 40 hands and he went all-in every single time, except for like 3 times, and even then he went all-in after the flop every single time. I played 3 hands, won all three hands, and won the entire match :)

Nice work. I play limit games mostly and play the same as you early in tourneys which works well. I wanted to see how no-limit online games went down so I watched a few hours worth of action at some site I don't even remember now but all the tables seemed just like that. First damn hand half the table was all in and the winner won with 2 8o. After that it kept coming the same way. I know no-limit is still most peoples favorite but if you pick the wrong table you're in for a long night. Oh, and as far as the people watching giving you shit, I don't like the sites that let observers chat. If they're not at the table with their cash out they should keep their mouths shut.

that is the funniest story I have heard in a long time. I ignore the first ten hands on single table tourneys anyway. I won one once in 14 minutes. I got a lot of crap too. I ask them to play one on one with me...and they usually shut up. Especially after I tell them I know their name and have written it down. They get real quiet.

This was at Party Poker. I entered a play tourny and got bored with the stupid play so I left. Entered another tourny and the same exact stuff was going on so I left. Decided to take a break. Took a shower, got some food and all in all it was around a half hour. I logged back on both games popped up showing that I was still in on both. I was in 3rd place on one and 4th place in the other and I wasn't even there playing. It was in automode placing my blinds and folding. I started really playing the 3rd place one and ended up 2nd place after a fierce battle. I decided what the heck, logged off and back on and the other game came back up again. I was now 3rd place in that game. I started playing it with $200 left and won the tourny! Now that is truely pathetic. Not even in the game for 3/4's of it and still won! So I took this as a lesson in how well doing nothing can work as a tactic.

Yes there have been alot of people going all in at Party Poker recently. I'd say and avg of 4-5 empty chairs after one hand. And whoever wins seems to keep it up. I've heard several people say they've seen someone win doing this. So it only incourages more to follow.

I'm counting the days until I can milk enough money out of the wife to get a bankroll on there.

If you're looking to take money from rookies, PP is the place to go. Don't get me wrong, there are some great players on there, but they are extremely outnumbered by people who think that a 47s is a great hand. I don't play many tourneys because I prefer ring play. The best way to tell which rooms in ring play are filled with rookies is to check out the average pot amount. The higher it is the more chuckers there are. Sit in and play patiently and you can easily walk away with $100 or more in just a short while. I try to do this nightly. As long as I get decent cards at least occasionally it usually works out to my benefit.
By the way, if I had a quarter for every time I was mocked for folding alot, I'd be retired from my job and playing $1,000,000 tourneys for fun.

Post & fold is a legitimate strategy in my book. I played in a multi tournament recently on Paradise - $20 buy in so you don't get as much crappy loose play. In the very first hand I got dealt AA in the big blind. Nobody raised and about 8 players had limped in by the time it got round to me. I raised to 200tc (the blinds at level one are 10-20). The guy under the gun raised all in (1500tc) one other guy called and obviously I called - I was assuming they both had big pocket pairs. The first guy rolled 55 (all in with 55?? maybe he thought I was trying to steal but still...) and the other guy had KQs - KQs???? how can you call all in with that muck?? No help came on the board for anybody so I scooped up about 4700 chips to be the early chip leader. Basically, I then hit the post and fold button and returned about 45 minutes later to resume playing and was still in the top ten.

I have found through bitter experience that it is all too tempting to play loose when you have a big stack and end up giving it all back all too easily. It seems to me that the early chip leader rarely wins the tourney because they have probably got to that position by playing loosely and when the field thins out their loose play gets found out. I read somewhere that this is true of the WSOP as well - the person that wins is typically about 60th after day one - the day one chip leader doesn't usually make the final table.

well

well to be honest you both were kinda stupid. when you told everyone their is only two hands you would play the leader should automatically begin to only do about 100-200 chip bets to get you to fold, and if you called or re-raised then he could think, 'wow he has one of those hands he wants, maybe I should fold. ' he Fold's because you've expected him to go all-in, with you only picking up 200-250 pot chip. Which you will soonly give back to him in blind's. Then you will probably start calling him and he would probably start raising after flop to get you to Fold.

So, he was kinda stupid for not obviouslly releasing that. And next time, I dont think I'd tell everyone my strat. Even if this wasnt a Real Money game, you never know who you come across with again in a Real Money game.

But, good job.
