Postby kompis » Mon Feb 14, 2005 5:15 pm GMT

In a 6 man $1-2, get dealt 10 10 in lp. it is raised to $8 one guy calls i call too. 3 of us in the flop and it comes 10 :diamond: J :diamond: Q :club: .....trouble eh, it is checked round to me, so i open up for $20 pot of $28, they both call. I think hmmm possiblle draws on either flush or straight, would not just call me if they had flopped anything major.... turn comes 4:spade: ,they check it round to me again... pot is now @$98 i have only $50 left, i move in - they have shown no strength and i cannot let them see any more cards for cheap.... they both call..... river 9  . One guy mucks the other guy shows K9o. He flopped it but was my play wrong? i was willing to lay the trips if anybody showed me any strength, but they didnt... so i had no choice but to move in, how would any1 else play this hand?

That is tough when you flop trips....

But I really don't agree with this statement :

" think hmmm possiblle draws on either flush or straight, would not just call me if they had flopped anything major.... "

Someone flops a st with K9 or AK and they are sitting pretty - Why would they want to raise you and let you know?? Many times they will see if the turn brings trouble (Paired board or another diamond) before they get aggressive.

I would have reraised preflop. Good bet on the flop. Anyway, after seeing two guys call big bet, I would slow down and probably think one of them already made the straight. I would probably put the raiser on AK actually. I would check the turn and take a free card to hopefully fill up.

I can't really say if you played it wrong but with that flop I don't know if I would have raised. The thing is, in most case, if he's calls a big bet, he's either got the straight or flush. If he doesn't, he's got to figure you have one or the other and fold.

See what I'm getting at? In most situations you could gain nothing by raising. (Unless he's a bad player who would call with only a pair in the situation) So if your raise gets them to fold, you only win what was in there, which you would have had anyway if you had the best hand. If the call or raise, you probably don't have the best hand. (You’ve got to figure a good player would only call if at least he had trips)

Now, of course there is the possibility that he would have called with 2 pair or 1 high pair but I don't think it's worth it in that situation.

I guess the bottom like is - why were you raising? Hoping for a caller or hoping to buy the pot.

and like in all situations, it really depends on the other players. Are they the type that call anything? If they are real tight players and they were calling you, I'd be very nervious.
