if you are holding 10 J Q K, what are the odds you will flop a broadway? How about the odds of making it all (including the turn and river)? I havent seen any charts for omaha that answer this kind of thing. maybe i just have looked enuff.

Refresh yourself with the rules of Omaha.... I was sitting pretty with 4 to a straight flush in my hand. The best hand I have ever been dealt... Apparently!

Not to bore with all of the gory messy horrible details. My all in gets called by AA and I lose to trips aces, which will always beat a pair of 8s!

I did get that. If that my question was like that, though, I could have figured it out. If I thought I could use all 4 cards, all I would need is an ace. There are 4 of those and there are 48 cards left in the deck. I can do that no problem. But I do get that you can must use exactly 2 from your hand 3 from the board so my question is really this:

In holdem if you hold a 10 J, in order to flop a broadway you need exactly a Q K A. Or you will need those cards exactly by the river to have made the hand.

In omaha if you have 10 J Q K, in order to flop the broadway, you need to see Q K A, J K A, 10 K A, 10 Q A, J Q A, (or) 10 J A (did I miss any?)

In holdem there are charts that will tell me there is a 0.327% chance I will hit the broadway on the flop with 10 J (and 1.306% chance I get any straight at all). In omaha, though, my brain hurts trying to figure out how you would even start trying to figure out those odds.

I can do outs [to] how many cards are left to see what kind of odds I have post flop. but I have no idea how to get preflop odds.

I guess the broader question that I have than the one I posted is, is there an easy way to understand how to calculate pre-flop odds?

I've been screwing around with play money Omaha (just regular, none of that Hi/Lo, that hurts my brain), trying to learn the game. I can't really decide whether I like the game that much or not - I think I prefer the subtle charms of hold'em. That might have something to do with my not understanding the game very well, but it seems a little more mechanical than hold'em and the swings are much wilder. I think you'd need a bigger bankroll to survive at PL Omaha than NL Hold'em at the same stakes.

I'll tell you one thing though - judging by the play I've seen online, it might be a license to print money if you were any good at it. People just don't seem to understand how to play it at all. At least with hold'em, even the biggest dumbass has probably seen enough on TV that he has some little bits of knowledge floating around in his head. With Omaha, you've got a lot of people who are completely at sea.

Soo true... especialy for O8B.

I play only low limit cause its not mybest game, but I planed to read a little on this a try to go to higher limit.

I mean, I rack up 10$/hours at .5/1$...

its 10 big bet... ouch!!!!
